-Friend just got a ex495, and I am trying to help him set it up
-Not too tech literate, least with mac's
-Got time machine backups working no problem
-Trying to get media collector setup, and it will not collect
-Have already got it set up on a windows PC and it is collecting
-Have tried resetting the database, and that does not help either
-There are no special settings on the media collector for the MAC, just the defaults enabled
-I would figure there would be no issue with not having the correct access rights, as keychain already has the information as it is using it for time machine no problem.
-I know that the old ex485 had a log generated on PC to let you know what was going on, but was unable to find one on the MAC.
-also have the firewall off as well
-I am stumped here and do not know what else to check for. as for as it goes, everything should be set properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We need a bit more info, does the Mac even show up in the Server Console, and does it have any status shown? Can you access the network shares on the server from the mac?

Yes, MAC shows up in the console as connected
0 files collected, 0 pending, 0 not being collected

It can access the shares, and it has mapped drives to each.
As I mentioned earlier, it has keychain access already setup, as Time machine backups have worked. Unless that works a bit differently then it does on a 485

This shouldnt be in hardware as it is a software issue.

Make sure the Mac is on.

Check the Mac under Applications->Utilities->Console and pull out the log files. There should be entries about what the mediasmart collection software is doing and why it's not working. What version of Mac OS X do you have?

I would also recommend to investigate MSS logs - connect to it using RDP and look through Event Viewer events. If you find anything related don't hesitate to post here.

For the logs on the Mac client side look in /Library/Logs or ~/Library/Logs for anything MSS like.

Seems you have 10.6.1 update. Rolling back to 10.6.0 should help you - and, again, wait for update from HP to align with new Apple's update.
