I have no idea why those items in the postinstall fail, but its an indication of the install process gone wrong. Can you see if your installation log(if you still can see it) in the Console has these error entries?

It would be awesome if anyone with actual EX485 could email this question to HP support.

I am more than a little stumped. Unfortunately my Log does not go back that far. I am not sure if I want to remove and re-install at this point either. I agree if someone could submit it to HP. Why couldn't you call support or email the script to HP? Just tell them you have a 485. Worse thing that can happen is they say no, right? I think this one might be for minds smarter than mine. I will keep digging and see if I can find out anything else too.

I would submit this directly to hp if I could, unfortunately the first thing they do is ask y ou for the serial number of the product.
and they will definitely not bother with supporting unauthorized ex470 upgrade.

True, well maybe someone will be able to help. I thought maybe you could try a new version of the DMG. Doubt it will help but, worth a shot. I will attach it here to see if it may work for you.

It is the same version. I just thought it may be worth a shot if maybe it was something with the DMG file itself. Probably will have the same outcome but, it was small enough and worth a shot.

OK, just thought it was worth a shot since it is the file I used.

I was looking through what you posted and if I am reading that right it looks like when you are doing an install it is not getting rid of all of the original install. Can I recommend trying this
Download AppTrap here
http://konstochvanligasaker.se/apptrap/
and install it. In the future when you remove an app it should open a pop up that says "do you want to remove all associated files" you can select to remove files or keep files. Select remove files, if prompted. Completely remove the DMG from your desktop and empty the trash. Restart your machine and reset your PRAM following the directions below.
Resetting PRAM
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys.
Try downloading the HP MSS version I have posted above to your desktop, unzip/extract/mount it, and try re-installing. I know you said it is the same version but, humor me, on this one. After all what do you have to lose.

Not sure if it will work but, worth a shot.

Couple other things, have you tried to repair permissions/repaired disk from the Disk Utility tool in Utilities. I have heard this fixing some of these issues as well. Also, I know the Sharing settings are from your computer out but, do you also have AFP sharing turned on or do you just have SMB active? I believe it is actually connecting to the server via AFP, at least for Time Machine.

I dont think this has anything to do with the install file, this is most likely a network config issue.
Out of curiosity, is it possible to connect to WHS directly, bypassing a router?

Sure, just make sure that you assign a static ip address to both the WHS and your Mac. Should be no problems at all.

Ive pretty much exhausted all my options and given up on this.
I will have to wait for HP's official release of mac support for ex475 and contact them directly then.
Ive posted this questions on HP's support board and nobody replied except for another guy who experienced the same issue.
I think this speaks a lot about the number of Mac users with HP mediasmart server(not everyone experiences the same issue, but Im attributing this to poor handling of some sort of exception on HP software developers part)

Oh Wow, i just discovered a Console utility in OSX that displays system logs.
This entry was logged every time i clicked apply:
5/11/09 1:03:17 PM HP MediaSmart Server Control Center[710] *** -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value (key: Server MAC)
does this mean it cant identify the server's MAC address? What could be preventing osx from doing so?

That looks very strange. Are you being able to determine MAC address of your HPMSS from you Mac, using Terminal, say
$ arp ip_address_of_server
If the record in arp cache is empty, you can try to add it manually (using again "arp" command, see $man arp for details). However, to say the truth, it is hard to imaging for me, why this is possible. What network environment do you have?

Can somebody who has it working do me a favor and post the contents of the following file up on to this thread:

/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.hp.mss.MediaAggregation.plist

I have the same issue and am trying to get to the bottom of it. Have extracted the pkg with pacifist, but the only part of the installer that is a shell script seems to be postinstall. There is no mention of this file anywhere in the pkg (that I can see!) and I am hoping it may give me some clues to why it's not being created if I see what's in it.

Thanks
