Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help me please...

I have been trying all day to configure Time Machine to back-up to my EX490 - but have been completely unsuccessful ](*,) .

I have mss.dmg installed on my MAC (OSX version 10.6.8), the server tab has a green light indicating that it is connected, I can see the MediaSmart server from my MAC and browse the folders, but every time I try to create the backup disk on the backup tab I get the same error "Operation failed due to network error".

I have been looking around other threads and trying things out, but none of has worked as of yet. Things I have tried:

1. Firewall - MAC firewall is off.
2. I have tried to create very small back-up disk. But I can't create even the smallest of disks (1mb).
3. I increased the IRPStackSize to 27.
4. Uninstalled and then reinstalled mss.dmg from the server.

I have the following client versions: mss.dmg - 3.0.2b120, MediaSmart - 3.3.1.35433. I read somewhere that the version mss.dmg might be an issue?

Any help would be very much appreciated!!

I consistently experienced that error over the past year or so. I tried creating small (~1-10 GB) disks then resizing them up to a useful size with diminishing success over time. That was all with various versions of OS X 10.6 since 10.7 is not supported at all. Your software versions are the latest ones. I finally gave up on the MSS last Fall and replaced it with a Synology NAS, which supports Time Machine better than the MSS ever did.

Thanks for the reply Cliff. Quite disappointing. I have recently changed practically all my computers at home over to MAC (iMAC i7, Macbook air, Macbook Pro, etc). Looks like the only real option I have is to change my storage options.

One question, does the Synology NAS link up to the XBOX360?

One of the features I liked about the EX490 was that I was able to link up to the xbox to stream to my tv.

I don't have an XBox so I can't comment on how well it works - you'd want to check the Synology forums for that information.
