I have an EX487 with version 3.3.1 of HP's software. It's on a wired gigabit ethernet network, along with my desktop. I see wildly varying performance. Sometimes file transfers are 16 MByte/sec, and sometimes they're 80 MByte/sec. Is this normal?

Right now, the EX487 is using about 27% of its CPU and a file transfer is going at 31 MByte/sec.

Of course if it's busy balancing the data or doing a backup or something else, I could see how performance would vary. However, when the server is otherwise not busy, I'd expect to get consistent results.

Thoughts?

In my experience that's typical, and also note that it varies greatly depending on what your client PC is doing. When my PC is heavily loaded the file copies to the server are very slow, and when the PC load is low they zip along around 40MB/sec.

File size and the amount of files can also be a factor. A single large file will transfer faster than multiple small files.

Cheers from Claremore, OK! :)
