I just purchased a SAMSUNG Spinpoint F4 HD204UI 2TB HDD from Newegg yesterday and there's some discussion about issues with the 4K sectors. Anyone bought one and had any issues using it on any MSS?

To my knowledge the Samsung drives are not advanced format. I have no issues with my 2TB Samsung drive, and a search will turn up lots more discussion.

These are the listed features of the drive in question

667GB Formatted Capacity Per Disk
Environment friendly product with RoHS compliance
Improved performance with dual-ARM based firmware
Improved recording stability over temperature with PMR
ATA S.M.A.R.T. Compliant
Advanced dynamic FOD control for best data integrity
ATA Automatic Acoustic Management Feature
Intelligent compensation of external disturbance
ATA 48-bit Address Feature
SATA Native Command Queuing Feature
ATA Device Configuration Overlay Feature
Device Initiated SATA Power Management
NoiseGuard
Shock & Rotational vibration sensor
SilentSeek

Some reviewers claimed issues with WHS and XP, others stated no issues (SP3)
I think this is the post that may concern Martmeister

"I tested this drive extensively. In Windows 7, it will format with a starting sector of 2048, which is aligned for a 4k drive. HD Tune reports 103 MB/s. CrystalDisk reports ~130 MB/s read/write and ~40 MB/s read/write w/ 512k random.

However, if you use XP, WHS, and some versions of linux which start at Sector 63, the drive format is misaligned, and the 512k emulation does not compensate for this. Mis-aligned, HD Tune still reports 103 MB/s. However, CrsytalDisk reports ~128 MB/s sequential read write. The 512k random is ~ 40MB/s read, but only 20 MB/s write. The 4k random data suffers the same 50% slowdown during writes.

The bottom line, if you use this drive in XP, WHS, or anything else that formats starting at Sector 63, you will suffer a 50% slower write performance. Bad news for an OS."

The picture of the Drive shows a space for jumpers, but it is reported that there is no documentation for how to set these.

I am looking at 2 of these to bump up the 2 1.5 samis I have in my WHS- never had any issues with them ( On sale right now)

I picked up 2 during the special $94 with free shipping-( ordered Thursday, rec Friday)

I removed the 1T in my sig and just dropped in the Sami- no issues so far.

Comp1962 recommended I use the Home Server Smart add-in in another discussion, and when I added it I found one of my older drives 1.5 has 2 damaged sectors, so I am dropping it in favor of the other new 2TB.

With the removal and re-balancing, it should give them both a work out. I will give more feedback as I proceed.
