Wondering why if a guy had a EX495 and the restore disc why one couldn't restore a 48X server with them? It appears the 495 software is same as 48X software from all the Screenshots and discussions I have seen about the 3.0 upgrade for 48X series. Don't know if HP would like it but a thought :?

Well I may have answered my own question reading around the 495 has a completely different restore install setup.

The Recovery/Reset process is completely different between the 490 and 480 series, as well as the motherboard is slightly different (even though they are both Intel).

Plus the activation code in the BIOS is different between the two servers, so your copy of WHS would not activate.

Hey Element:
Is the only actual difference in the 2 48X and 49X boards the port multiplier? I think the power supply is 200 watt too or is it the same in the 2 versions?

There is a new power supply in the EX49x servers.

Hmmmm... Anyone tried the EX49x power supply in the EX48x or EX47x? Any known replacement units?

Alex, JohnB:
On the 48X series. As I understand there is a different chip on MB than 49X series, So can you have external Mulitiplier on eSata port? Therefore being able to have additional Sata drives? I read so many different threads on different boards not exactly sure if possible this way or this is one big advantage this way adding drive storage.

YES. The EX49x eSATA port will support a multi-bay (up to 5) enclosure. (The EX47x generally supports 4 bays and the EX48x supports only one.)
