So, I tried to build my own video/keyboard cable, but it kept not working... so I gave up. now I power my server back on, lights come on, things are working, but no love. Any advice? FYI- I only have a mac at home at the present, so I don't have access to all the software.

Would be easier just to order the debug cable or if your not concerned with the BIOS or Boot Post you could buy a USB-VGA cable which will allow you to access the servers desktop and you can always plug in a USB Keyboard and Mouse.

What I do not understand is what problem if any your experiencing. You say no love but do not indicate what you mean so its hard to determine any advise to help you out. So kindly start over and describe your problem and then maybe we can recommend corrective action to help you resolve your problem.
