HP sent me a replacement 750G system drive since my original one keeps failing. I need help with replacing it and moving the data from my orig. drive to the new one.

My config is
Bay 1 750GB Drive
Bay 2 1.5 TB Seagate, file duplication turned on from Bay 1 drives.

HP had me do the Factory reset on the new drive, then install my orig. 750G drive in Bay 3(removed bay 2 1.5TB dirve for this step), use Toolkit command prompt/DOS commands to copy from Drive F to drive D. However, the usage in the Control panel shows 200G in my system drive. The files I copied do not show up anywhere in the directory. I have 200GB of data somewhere-in never never land??

Is there a way to find where it copied?

When I install my 1.5TB drive, will I loose all my data? I thought that was one benefit of the Media Smart Servers, but the HP Support techs tell me I need to reformat that drive as well. I don't believe them. Especially since I have been lead down the road of "let me check with someone else" before they say the next step. Cannot find documentation anywhere on the steps except from HP Support emails, which contradict what the phone support is telling me.

Can someone that knows how to do this help me out?

Thanks

They really shouldnt have got you to copy those files from F to D. You always need to copy to the UNC name, i.e. \\HPSTORAGE\Music etc and never directly to D:\Shares.

What command did they give you to copy from F to D?

Did you have either of your two drives installed when you did the FACTORY RESET? If so, I suspect the data on those drives is now gone.

Also... did you really do a factory reset, or did you do a SYSTEM RESTORE?

/Jim

If you ever have to do this again, do the SYSTEM RESTORE!

(This not intended as criticism to you, more as a warning to help future readers avoid this path.)

John, Do you have a typo? I suspect you meant to say System Restore.

Gee, Jim, what are you talking about? Looks like "restore" in nice bold type up there!

(I edited it! Thanks for the heads-up!)

What they told me on the phone was 'xcopy /s /y e:\de\shares\*.* d:\de\'

The email they sent me after the fact was' xcopy /s /y e:\de\shares\music\*.* d:\de\shares\music'

No, the only drive I had in the bays was the new one they sent me.
