Hi - I bought a EX487 on Oct. 30, 2009, finally got to opening it up today and setting it up.

1. The Noise is annoying, it sounds like its coming from the front, maybe the Power Supply? It sounds like a cable is getting caught in the fan or something, its like whirring sound, high pitched.

Is this Normal? Or is this faulty hardware?

I have this underneath my desk, but am thinking of maybe moving it to the Garage or somewhere with a wireless bridge connection. Not sure, but sound is real annoying.

Would appreciate the input.

Thanks for the link to the thread - it seems this is a normal problem.

Based on the thread, some people replaced the PSU themselves and/or RMAd it back to HP, though they get a refurb unit instead then.

I have some cashback that might be troublesome if i return this machine. I have to wait 60 days for the cashback, a return/exchange would void it.

I think i might first see if i like this server and then see if i should return or exchange the unit.

Or might have to get used to the noise. Or hide it somewhere in a garage, my closet does not have a power outlet, otherwise would have placed it there.
