Hi,

I recently purchased a HP EX485 and like the little gizmo. (I had tried out WHS vanilla on some separate hardware and like the way it worked, thought the 4-bay NAS was a good bargain, so I bought one.) So far, I'm enjoying it with a few niggles.

My primary problem with it, however, is that the PSU fan seems whiney/noisy and I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this. Unfortunately, I live/sleep in the same room as the little guy and he's quite annoying to hear at that frequency all the time. It was bad enough that I called HP support about it. Unfortunately, there's nothing they can do because its not malfunctioning.

I've seen the upgrade page on Tom's so I know the box can be disassembled relatively easily, but I'm wondering if the PSU fan can be 'hacked' and swapped out?

Thanks for any feedback,

Brad

If that one dosen't have the info you need use the search function in the upper left area of any page you are on in the forum. Let us know if you don't find the info you need and we will try to assit you. :)

Call them again and make them listen to it, ie: put the phone right in front of the unit at the bottom.
They'll replace your chassis...for a refurbished one though.
