I tried an e6600 (C2D 2.4Ghz) that I had laying around and no go... Just wouldn't boot up. Put the celeron back in and its back to normal. |

Ok So I got bored.. I had another PC with an E6420 (C2D 2.16 Ghz) laying around and I figured what the hell.. Here's the before:  Here's the after:  I'm not too happy about the full load temps, but its still within spec..  hwmonitor shows a different temp range as well.

The good news out of this is that the limitation looks to be more thermal than power delivery (or whatever it was that limited the EX47x). ie: Ed's L3110 might be the ticket. Googling for vcore pinmods for the c2d returns some interesting results... it looks like it might be the way to lower the vcore on these chips. (for those googling along, most of the useful info appears to originate from the notebookreview forums) edit/update: Looks like there are a few softmod tools available too. |

Looks like he passed 1Hr of OCCT testing with the E5200... CPU reached 70°C though and there's some regular spikes to 0% CPU usage during the testing. Perhaps as a result of mhz throttling at high temperatures? His OCCT graphs show his chip running at 1.2Ghz@200FSB instead of the 2.5Ghz the E5200 is supposed to run at. I wonder how it would do on a prolonged test... Still, it didn't shutoff during testing so we're much further along than I though we would/could be with the EX48x. |

Not sure if this will help anybody out, but I'd like to give back what I can since these forums have been quite helpful. Using MMTool v3.19 (AMI Bios copyright) manipulation tool, I copied the bios to see if I could deduce anything about the contents. The CPU Patch page of the tool is shown in the attachment jpeg and hopefully in-line below if I did it right. Attachment: CPU Patch.jpg [ 60.25 KiB | Viewed 35955 times ] I'm pretty sure #5 reflects the current 2GHz shipping processor, but without any Intel table available I'm not sure what the other four CPUs listed are. Can anybody assist? Thanks in advance. |

That's interesting, 06FB is the intel Q6600 2.4 quad core. I know it runs pretty cool but passively? |

I put an e4300 (C2D 2ghz) in over the weekend and it passed OCCT and actually runs cooler then the celeron. Idles at 44c. I think any Pentium dual core, (which is essentially a C2D with 2mb cache and 800FSB and no virtualization support) should work. I think the e4350 had issues because of the 1066FSB. |

I did some googling on comparisons between the 3800 EE SFF vs the E4300... (From a german article) Looks like an E4300 system is a bit faster, uses slightly less power at idle, and uses slightly more power at full load than a comparible 3800 EE SFF system. Things are off to a good start! |

He didn't. He just identified the cpus from the (bios) cpu microcode table. |
