I am a new owner of a Ex485 and I am having some problems with Media Collect. When I first set up the server and the software on my Laptop everything transferred correctly but then it just stopped. I have it set to 1 hour increments and when I go to add a folder and picture in the Picture Directory on the Laptop I wait and wait and that Directory and the new picture never gets transferred to the server. It is as if it works at first then it stops.

Can anyone help me? :)

Thanks!

You probably want to have a look at your log file for mediacollector. IT's located in: C:\temp\HP MediaSmart Server\log.

Ususally this can choke on files that are corrupt, long path names and strange characters in the filename. Have a look at the log an look for events that didnt complete. Successful completion will result in a "Completed aggregation" message in the log.

Cheers!

But if they completed once don't you think that it would choke then too?
:?:

Thanks!

Yes/no. If it completed once successfully, and you add more folders/files to be collected those new files could be the culprit.

There can be other reasons as well.. you could attach your log to this thread, and we can have a look and see what might be causing it.

Ok so I went home last night and looked at the Log File. I did see some strange things that were coming up when it came to MP3 Files so I deleted all of them that were on the list. That did not seem to help. I have the Media Collector set to run every hour. When I look at the log file the last time it ran was yesterday the 25th. Shouldn't there be an entry hourly? The problem seems to be that the program is not running when it should?

Thanks!

Perhaps a source of the problem might be the task necessary for the mediacollector to run. Can you check in your Windows Task Scheduler and see if there is an entry for it?

I decided to use the SyncBack program. Much easier and more customizable!
I cant seem to get the installed software to work correctly.

I'm new here and searched for a week or two for the solution. I found it (maybe on this site) but it was in an odd place. It said to delete the *.xml files in the photos/music and it will automatically rescan.

Would I need to do this every time it stops working? I would have to do this in every file right?

I did it once and noticed it recollected everything. after I added some photos, I noticed it did not pick up the new photos after a day or two. I can't find a full solution that is not manually removing the files each day.

Wondering if this is happening to others?

I have been having this same problem here recently. I got my ex485 in the middle of February and everything has been working fine up until now. Like the OP I have my time interval set to every hour but it doesn't seem to run. I don't understand why it would just stop working for no reason at all. I have not installed any add-ins or anything else on my server. It's the same as when it came out of the box.

kme, what .xml files are you talking about? Do they come included in some music downloads or something?

So I have the opposite problem. I don't want media collector to run, and set it to never look for files, but it keeps on doing it.

I would love to disable it, or even delete it from the server, but can't seem to find where the program is or any services running.

Any help identifying the above would be very helpful.
