Before today you could only call and leave your name and number to be contacted when these units came in and were available to ship. I just checked HP's site and noticed they are now accepting online orders for both the EX485 and the EX487. I placed an order for the EX485 as I ordered my own hard drives 2 x 1.5 tb Seagate drives. Let's just hope they have been fixed before they were shipped to me. As soon as I get more information regarding when this unit will ship I will post a message.

I do know that HP has been expecting products to arrive from China, however with the celebrations of the Chinese New Year has slow things down.

The title of your post is misleading. Did you mean to type "Now"? Maybe a correction will help others.

Ordering (actually pre-ordering) from Amazon saves me ~$100 ($50 less tag price + no tax (~$50)) compared to ordering from HP directly. In addition, Prime gets me 2-day shipping as opposed to ground...

C'mon Amazon; start shipping these already :D

Sorry, I fixed the title. Yes I had a discount I could use ordering directly from HP so I choose that route, but I do purchase more than my wife wants me too from Amazon thanks to my Prime membership.

Nice - lets us know when it arrives. I have 2 on order via Amazon - no shipping info yet... I would assume HP will ship first followed by everyone else but we had nearly a buy 1 get one free deal so can afford to wait a bit.

the (8) 1.5's that I ordred look to have already shipped.

Just ordered mine also. Been waiting for a call back from HP but it looks like I can still get the $50 pre-order discount. This will be my first Home Server. I have been using a Linux solution for a while and what really got me thinking about getting one of the new servers from HP is the OSX Time Machine support. I will post any thoughts/feelings about the setup once I get my new toy. :)

Buy the way, I got the HP MediaSmart Server EX485 as I already have two 1 TB hard drives. Also looking forward to the Amazon S3 service.

Just a follow up....

HP just called me about the server being up for sale. They told me that the $50 off you get for calling the pre-order number is in addition to the $50 you get default. So total discount I got was $100. Luckly they cancelled my previous order and just created a new order with the $100 off. :D

I just went to their site. They are showing currently out of stock. When did they implement the extra $50 off? I pre-ordered mine thru Amazon b/c it was $50 cheaper. But apparently it isn't anymore. (I do save sales tax though....if and when it comes in)

My mistake. It's the 475 that they are out of stock on. The 485 is "coming soon", but only shows a $50 credit.

As it is I'll be tossing the 750 - no reason here to go with a larger base drive.

What is the procedure to replace the base/server drive? Based on what I've been reading on this forum, the server drive is not utilized for storage by the drive extender. Is that correct? If so, can I replace the base drive with an 80GB hard drive that I currently have in my desktop (in addition to 2x 1TB and 2x 500GB drives)?

Thanks!
