Post subject:  EX485 temparature.
I have an EX485 with upgraded CPU (E5200) and 4GB memory.
I'm running FreeNAS and so far everything is great.
I am running the stock BIOS.

The CPU core temps are reported as pretty high at 62C.
I am using Arctic MX-4 paste on the CPU and southbridge cooler.

Does anyone have recommendations as to what I can do regarding the temparatures as I would like to get them lower.

OK, I hold up my hands. The bottom fan is not working.
Will have to replace it.
Moving the working fan to the bottom, I now get 56C.
Still seems pretty warm to me.

I have the HDDs set to spin down after 5 mins (and SMART to not check spun down disks).

Still. Anyone got suggestions to make the system runner cooler?
I notice that there is a fan header on the motherboard.
Any suggestions as to useful use of it?

Keeping the unit clean, moving it to a cooler place, making sure the unit has plenty of air space around it (not in a space with a door closed) and the most used ways.
Some people have purchased usb fans and set them in front or mounted them on the back for extra cooling.
Some have taken the fine mesh screen out to allow more air flow but that will also allow more dust/dirt in as well.

First up, I will have to sort out the faulty fan.
Next, I will try to find a fan small enough to put in front of the main board the help the airflow through using the fan header on the board.
It's getting a bit crowded in there.
I did notice that the fan does not seem to be speeding up with the temp so I will look into the BIOS settings to find out what the score is.

BTW I did find a different PSU on ebay that seems to suit the EX485 just fine, from a seller called cputopia.

Can't really comment on lifetime but it does fit, is 300W and was pretty cheap.
Did the standard rewire on the ATX plug and removed the extraneous cabling from the circuit board with a soldering iron.
The cable is a bit longer but the PSU body is quite a bit shorter so there is somewhere to tuck it in without blocking airflow too much.
Fan is very quiet.
SO, for the moment, I can recommend it.

Edit: When the PSU warms up the fan ramps up a little so you can hear it.
Not too bad in the basement though.

Got some replacement fans sourced from our local Free Geek. Works nicely.
Stabilised at 42C.
Would like to get it a little cooler, but I'm pretty happy now.
I expected the dual core to be warmer so no problems really.

I also have a tidgy little fan that I might be able to squeeze onto the CPU heatsink if I reduce the heatsink height a bit. A project for another time though.
