Post subject:  Upper fan not getting power

I have been using the HP EX485 since I bought is new years ago. In recent times had to replace the PSU and then found the upper fan not working or perhaps not getting power. So I replaced the upper fan with a new one; it did not get power either. The lower fan was working so I plugged it into the upper fan power connection only to find it would not get power either. Has anyone seen the upper power connection or circuit go bad? To have air flow I used a Y splitter off the power connection for the lower fan and now both are working, just not off their individual power connection.

Does anyone know if it is a bad backplane or bad mother board or both?

The four, 1terabyte drives in the server are more than likely needing to be replaced in the near future they are five to six years old, question should I scrap the whole thing and build a server or is there a fix?

Thank you in advance for any assistance,

I would guess a bad motherboard or fan cable or one end or the other connection is not set right.
As far a if you should scrap it, it sounds like you have both fans powered, I would look on ebay and maybe find a cheap spare of the same model for parts.
Or, Look to get a ex-495 or x-510 to upgrade to something a little newer.

Good luck, sorry I didn't see this sooner, hope all is well, let us know what you did if anything, might help others...
Good Luck

I would say a fan connection.
If you connected it to the plug for the lower fan that works to the upper fan plug and still does not run.

I would check for possibly a bent pin in the connector or on the female side that it came out of the socket.
