oh, weird. after messing about with it for a while (i dont know what it was doing) i got it to show me the display. so i'm back in business again. well, now it's the end of the beginning, if not the beginning of the end quite yet! |

... and now it shut down. and it'll turn on for only about half a second before it shuts down. and repeats this. i just unplugged it to let it sit for a bit. (even with no hard drives, same thing.) weird. |

Get an older PC and build a WHS. With the $70 you spent on the power supply, you can find a complete PC for WHS. Better deals can be found at business server. The consumer media servers are over-priced, IMHO. |

i've already got an older PC, probably overkill for it, but that's probably the direction i'm heading towards. And it'll be linux, not WHS. |
