oh, weird. after messing about with it for a while (i dont know what it was doing) i got it to show me the display. so i'm back in business again. well, now it's the end of the beginning, if not the beginning of the end quite yet!

... and now it shut down. and it'll turn on for only about half a second before it shuts down. and repeats this. i just unplugged it to let it sit for a bit.

(even with no hard drives, same thing.)

weird.

Get an older PC and build a WHS. With the $70 you spent on the power supply, you can find a complete PC for WHS.

Better deals can be found at business server. The consumer media servers are over-priced, IMHO.

i've already got an older PC, probably overkill for it, but that's probably the direction i'm heading towards. And it'll be linux, not WHS.
