so i won an EX485 via eBay but no drives nor recovery DVD's included, anyone has a way to restore an OS on this thing?
or will my EX490 recovery disc works? TIA

The HP Disk Sets are specific to the server model so no your EX490 recovery disks will not work. Also the EX485 recovers differently then the EX490.. Keep an eye on eBay as someone is always selling MSS Disk Sets. It's a shame people do not include them with the server. If you like what you see on your EX490 then you will want the v3.0 disk set otherwise its v2.x for the EX485. |

Technically you don't need the recovery disks. If you want WHS 2011, I'd suggest following one of the guides to creating a bootable USB unattended install. I believe you may be able to find a cheap copy still floating around (picked up my copies for $30 I think). Otherwise, you can always look at XPenology, freenas, or other alternate OS. |

BTW as for WHS2011 install, what i did on my ex490 is get a new 2TB hard drive, stick it in on any desktop then install WHS2011 there ( i use DVD), before first reboot, shut it down and stick it to EX490 .. youll finish the EX490 setup by going to the IP address then it's all fine after. |
