I am trying to install the WHS Connector software on my Windows 8 laptop. From the laptop I can get to the software directory on my server through File Explorer. When I run the software the server is not found. I have tried finding the server manually, but with no success. Any suggestions? I tried to look for the WHS software on both HP and Microsoft's websites.

Did you install the connector software from the Client Software Install Disk or from the Server? I do know others are running the WHS v1 Console Software on Win8 clients but I do not on mine since I use WHS2011 to backup my Win8 Clients.

I have tried loading the software from the disk, but get the same response that the server cannot be located. It is strange to me that I can go over the network to the files on the server, yet cannot find the server while running the software directly over the server.

I would not bother attempting to use the Client Software CD to load the console software because its out of date and the only time you might want to use that disk is if your doing a recovery and for some reason the client software is not installed by the recovery software.

Better to download the client software from your server using the following example http://your server name:55000

I was finally able to log manually into my server and download the connector software. My server now backs up my Windows 8 laptop. Thanks for all you help.

compucom - could you post some details on how you logged on manually and got it working? I'm experiencing similar problems (actually several different problems depending on which of my Win 8 PCs I use). Thanks!

To download the Client Software from the server use the following example:

http://name_of_the_server_here:55000

This will bring you to a little web page on the server which you can download the current version of the client software the server is expecting the client to use.
