I know it has been beaten to pulp on this forum but does anyone have smi files for EX485 that I can use. Recently I screwed up server recovery process by prematurely taking out dvd-rom thinking that recovery was complete. Since then my server has been dead. I did use VOV gen 3 cable and numerous attempts to recover - failed. It seems that SMI area got corrupted somehow since i can not see MINNT device on my server.
Can anybody help?

thanks

Your SMI may not be corrupted but is no longer bootable. If you are not able to obtain a copy of the SMI files you seek then I would purchase a DEBUG Board and create a Bootable USB Drive set to boot to DOS which may expose the SMI Area as a drive. If I am correct then you could then copy the files and make another bootable USB Flash Drive with the SMI files on them to place the server into its recovery mode if you place that Bootable USB Flash Drive into the bottom rear USB Port and turn the server on.

However have you tried removing all drives and connected devices other the and network cable and then attempt to turn the server on to see if it will boot into its recovery mode. The SMI only becomes active when you press that Status/Reset Button during the boot process (Something I never liked), or it be comes active when the EX485 detects no other bootable devices and then boots from the SMI Area.

The last thing I that comes to mind is if you know someone with an EX48x that is willing to help you all you need to do is disable the HPMediaSmart Service to expose the SMI Area then all you need to do is copy the files and once you have them then you need to turn the service back on. Its been awhile but you may have to reboot after disabling the service and then once you get the files and re-enable the service you will need to reboot the server. While the service is disabled then the LEDS will not function properly and you will get server health alerts but once its enabled those will go away and the LEDS will resume functioning normally.
