After applying adaptions hacked EX495 BIOS to my EX485, I receive the 'Your HP MediaSmart Server may have a hardware problem.' notification saying 'The HP MediaSmart Server fans are running slightly out of specification.' With the help of ikilledbambi, I was able to compare the configuration of the original EX485 BIOS and adaption's hacked BIOS and came across a 'Min PWM 1 Duty Cycle' and Min PWM 2 Duty Cycle' both of which are set to 06 for Failsafe and Optimal in the EX485 BIOS but left unconfigured in the hacked EX495 BIOS. Is this the BIOS setting controlling the fan speed? I'd like to be able to increase the fan speed to provide better cooling and eliminate the error. Any ideas?

Cheers from Claremore, OK! :)
Dave

I can't help you with the bios settings but my advice is to try it and see what it does. My solution was to install Speedfan to be able to contol the fans speeds across a wide spectrum. With my EX485 and the modded bios, Speedfan works great. You do have to modify the settings in Advanced Configuration to set the fans to manual control and then you are able to control the fans. There are other settings in that area but I have not tried them.

That's the strange (troubling?) part... I can't change the setting on the hacked EX495 BIOS but can on the EX485 BIOS. All my BIOS editing is done using AMIBCP as I don't have a console cable. If all else fails, I may have to try the Speedfan as you suggest.

Cheers from Claremore, OK! :)

yes, it looks like there is a different sensor chip on the 485 than the 490. Speedfan works just fine on the 485 but finds no fans on the 490 hardware even with the same bios.
