I have an EX 485 with four 2 TB WDigital Black drives running in striped mode (spanning my 7.5 TB of data across all four) and now need more space. I have heard (possibly incorrectly) that plugging an external eSata cable into the HP system (2TB drive) is a mistake as there is a strong possibility of data corruption due to a faulty cable. Thus, I'd lose my entire stack of data. Is this correct? Should I build a second server or is it perfectly safe to move to 10 TB with the external drive. Much thanks.

There are many mss users with esata enclosures or single drives connected via the cable. I've only seen a couple of people post with issues which have been resolved by replacing the cable, and a ton more where a faulty drive (internal or external) have produced issues. The main thing to remember is no system is foolproof and taking regular backups is key.
