no, gigabit wired ... my wireless though would be 5Ghz N

just tried playing via VLC directly using an ISO with no mounting and still get a stutter which makes me believe there might be some network setting that would need to be changed

ok so i ripped a new DVD, not BD, to the server using rip Video DVD to HD through anyDVD and played it through MB using TMT and it played for about 5 min or so plus load stuff with no stutter, minus one brief second at the very beginning of the load

tried another DVD, ISO format, and it played with a couple small stutters over about a 5 min span, minimal

did not try a BD for the folder test as I need to figure the best way to extract a BD as I mount the ISO on the HTPC and to transfer the mounted files back to the server takes a long time and anyDVD does ISO only for BD I believe

I am now also running the Mikinho program, i assume, and Daemon tools to mount the ISO, should I have any enhanced settings enabled on the ISO, do we think it is a mounting issue or a bandwidth thing within the network for large file sizes

It is of note to also say that I remove the protection when I rip the discs, could this possibly cause issues?

also I have MB set to use the Network Path for movies ... the TV show I played ripped to folder structure was accessed through MB via mapped drive as I seem to have issues with the WHS showing up in my network list sometimes

AnyDVD rips to folders for BluRays as well, the same way you did it for a DVD. Removing the protection should cause zero issues as I do this already. I would still want to see how your PC handles BluRay folders to see if it is possibly choking on high bitrate content over the network

If is chocking over a VIDEO_TS folder it will go crazy with BD.
Here is what i think. The media server all it does is serve media. Your HTPC is the one playing the movies so i would say that either there is a bottleneck on your switch/router or your htpc is having a hard time.
I have been using clonedvd and mikinho without a problem.

I am ripping the folder structure of a BD now to test it and should have results within the next hour

I am using a D-Link Green Ethernet 8 port gigabit switch and a Linksys Dual Band gigabit router WRT-610N

Both the HTPC and the Server are on the router ... I am trying to determine what would be the bottleneck though

I have the Dlink and Linksys in my setup as well (however my server is connected to HP Pro Curve Switch and my HTPCs are connected to the DLink switch)

I think you have a great system going GTiceman but I am not a big fan of using the ports on wireless router specially if the wireless feature is being use.
I had a DIR-655 and a switch connected to it with the server and the computer connected to the switch and the transfer speed was ok but not what i wanted (75-80 MB/s). Once i connected the server and the desktop on the switch without the router it when to 150-175 MB/s. It might not look like much but it makes a lot of difference.
Just a thought.

cuban i was thinking about moving some things around on the switch/router, problem is I have like 8 or so ethernet devices ... they are never all on at the same time

my TV has internet apps so one there,
I have 2 ethernet lines to my one room for a desktop and a laptop
One ethernet line to my roommate's room which he never really uses
a line to my server
One to the HTPC
One for the PS3 and one for the XBox 360

So if I follow you cuban you are suggesting that the only line coming off the router should be the one to the switch and leave the others open, Port 1 or Port 4?

I would definitely recommend trying that. I try and keep my Linksys router for remote access/internet access duties only, and all network connections flowing through switches

Just so we are clear, you moved all the cat5 to the switch exept one, right? The problem with the BD might be you computer that is not prepared for such a load. Try connecting the server and the computer to the switch see if it makes a difference.

everything is moved over to the switch ... do you mean disconnect everything but the HTPC and WHS and test it

the system plays BD discs fine if i play the discs

why would i have stuttering though with ISO DVD files ... MKV files seem to play fine

Ok lets take a step back and try to think. You said you laptop can play the ISO over wireless, but you cant play it over wired on you HTPC. What are you using to play it on the laptop?
