Hello all-

I just recieved my HP WHS about a week ago and everything was working great until tonight when i was watching a movie through my a-110 and all of the sudden the video stopped and I restarted to no avail. I went to the menu screen to see the options to connect the HPSTORAGE but when I click it I get no valid information found.. Would Twonky be causing the problem or something else more sinister..:) Any help would be much appreciated as this is my first WHS after switching from a NAS solution.

Thank you,

First off, welcome to the forum. You are just connecting to the EX490 via twonky? Did you try connecting via smb, I would highly recommend setting up the A-110 to connect via smb and not the twonky that comes with the EX490.

Hello and thank you for the welcome! What would be the safest way to go about switiching to smb? I've been in IT for almost a decade but this home media server/storage is still pretty new to me (2weeks):) I just want to make sure I dont mess up since I've already moved about 2tb worth of movies and music to the HP.

Thanks!

Don't worry, the EX490 is already set up for smb, you just need to set up in the A110.

Go into Network share in the A110 and create a new share. Name it whatever you want. The url would be:

smb://YourServerName/FolderName

Username and password would just be your username and password for the EX490 (username most likely Administrator)

As an example, I wanted to set up a samba share for my video collection. I called the new share "My Videos" and set the url to - smb://MyServer/Videos

Let me know if this works for you.

See example below of what this would look like

Great! Thank you- I'll try this as soon as I get in from work. Does this mean I can disable twonky media server in services? It seems to eat up a lot of CPU power.

I would keep twonky as is as it shouldn't affect any performance on your EX490. The bad thing about smb is that you need to set up a separate share on the A-110 for each shared folder (i.e. you would set up a share for Videos, Music, and Photos separately assuming you keep in separate folders as most do). However, the smb share will see every file type (Twonky does not, it only supports certain formats). Once you set up the smb share you will see this as a source on the main A110 menu. Good luck, let me know if it works once you get home.

Excellent news. Don't hesitate to ask questions (media streaming, WHS, etc,...), there are a lot of knowledgable and helpful individuals in this forum :mss: :whs:

I uninstalled Twonky (PV Connect) from my MSS and haven't missed it because I never used it. I only use SMB for streaming SD DVD ISOs or myiHome for streaming blu-ray m2ts files to my A-110.
