Yeah, that is why I was asking as I know accel. isn't supported with Windows/XBMC. Have you tried playing any flash content (such as Hulu)?

Thanks. I have heard that is where the current Ion platform struggles since Flash does not support hardware acceleration. Wasn't sure if it was just playing back SD content, HD content, or both from sites like Hulu, etc...

Klamath,
Could you do a breakdown of parts with costs, including shipping and tax? That would be useful for the folks trying to decide between a media box and a HTPC.

THE PRICE IS RIGHT!

Bob, I will go with $600.

BTW, I thought CompUSA went bust completely! Are there still stores open or did someone just buy the name and stick them on their doors?

Compusa was bought out by Tiger Direct, they operate in a few states and the stores are more like Sams club now with boxes cut open with wares spilling out of them and OEM packed hard drives.

Zotac ION ITX A-U 330 $214.33 S&H+T
M350 Case $49.71 S&H+T
Pinnacle PCTV REMOTE $29.99
Centon 2x2GB DDR2 $53.98
IO Gear Key&Mouse $49.99
120GB 2.5" HD $39.99

Total $436.99

What power supply did you use? I did not see a power supply included with the case. Did you use a brick power supply? Did it come with the mobo?
And what was the specs on the memory? DD2 667 or some such?

The motherboard comes with a 90 Watt power brick, inside the case there is a molex connector to 3 sata power ports. The memory is DDR2 800.

Hulu windowed mode work fine, however when you put it on full screen it lags quite bad.

Do you think this would make a decent desktop computer?

I want something with decent performance with WinXp or Win7 to replace my Athlon 64 X2 4200+ WinXP box. I have a Dual-Quad 2.8GHz Xeon Mac Pro for all of my heavy lifting that also boots to WinXP on a dedicated 320GB hard drive for gaming, so this doesn't have to be a powerhouse.

I'm looking at this case:
LIAN LI PC-Q7 Black Aluminum Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... %20lian-li
I'd have to close off where the power supply goes, but that shouldn't be too big a problem.

My main concerns:
1. Cool and quiet. It will obviously meet this criteria.
2. Adequate performance compared to my current 4200+.

You can get the ASRock ION 330 at NewEgg. Pricewise it comes out to about the same as your build. It has a DVD player which yours doesn't, but you have 4GB Memory, remote, and mouse. It is very tempting to pull the trigger on this or build one like yours. The one discouraging thing (if you can call it that only because the ION platform is so cheap) is adding an O/S like Windows is almost 1/4 the cost of the total system. I could go with a free O/S like Linux but honestly don't have much desire to learn a new O/S, etc... Decisions, decisions!!!

Ill tell you right now, i have been using linux back when slackware was the only distro around and i HATE HATE HATE HATE setting up linux. I found this site after the fact, pretty much describes what i had to muddle though to get it going (http://a8t8.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!25 ... !804.entry). It was very easy is retrospect. I have collected my media library into folders, ran Media Info Plus and im running MediaStream and loving every second of it. I also have mame installed and its running very well, girlfriend plays the sims 3 on it.

Give in, stimulate the economy lol!

Haha, yeah, do it for the economy!!! I have XBMC set up on my PC (with MIP) but haven't been using it much of late. Probably take another look at it to see if I am willing to use it with Linux on one of these.
