I have an older O! Play but didn't use it much. Biggest complaint is slowness and interface. It's too much like browsing folders which resulted in a low WAF (wife acceptance factor). Currently I have an Apple TV2 (not the latest version) and that interface is something that has a high WAF. It's not perfect but it's pretty good. It has Netflix and a Plex client so I can watch all my ripped DVDs from it. I've heard Boxee is pretty good but I haven't never had one.
