I have a lot of music on my 490 MSS that is networked to an Onkyo TX NR 807. The Onkyo has net features that do Pandora, Internet music channels, etc. The net feature can also read and play music files from the MSS. But so far I have to select music from the MSS through file structure which is a Pain with a large library. Is anyone doing this with an Onkyo receiver running music jukebox software on the MSS so that music can be selected through album art, similar to what can be done on a pc running WMP or other similar software?

BTW the Onkyo is DLNA for whatever that is worth.

I would imagine that the ability to view back your music library on the Onkyo is dependent on the Onkyo and not the MSS as far as the UI that you see (so you would need Onkyo to build in a feature rich music UI)

Damian,
I have looked at media monkey, which according to their web site, is "compatible" with the Onkyo receiver. HP also recommended MM. I have been asking on the other "av" forum but it appears no one seems to be doing this with this receiver. I totally agree that a lot depends on the DLNA features built into the Onkyo.

Guess I'll have to spend some time giving it a try to find out.

Might be asking for some help on loading media monkey and getting it to work on the MSS.

I have an Onkyo 906 which is internet enabled, but since I have Sonos I haven't had much of a need to use my Onkyo for music. If I have some time I will look at Media Monkey, but I still have a sneaky suspicion that what you see will be dependent on the Onkyo, regardless of what Media Monkey shows (but only way way to find out, right!!!)

Damian,
as suspected, music selection is still through file tree structure. Media monkey installed on MSS. At least album art is showing for song playing from network through Onkyo receiver. This is very similar to Pandora display.

Sonos. Looks like an expensive option for what I am trying to do. Any suggestion for a music media player?

I have both Sonos and Logitech, and they are both solid options. Logitech is less expensive. I have Sonos set up at home. and have the logitech squeezebox radio in my office at work.I got my dad a squeezebox radio as well, and just picked up the squeezebox boom for his birthday today. Here are my writeups

Sonos:
