Hi there,

Just purchased a new Samsung SmartTV and although I can see the MediaSmart as a share it appears ghosted out and I cannot see any of my music, photos or videos.

I am guessing I need to allow access on WHS for the TV to share its media?

ISTR some time ago I went through a similar issue with another device and that there was a limit as to how many devices could share media from the WHS but I can't for the life of me remember where it is and how to access it.

Chances are that I have some old/unused devices in the 'access list' and I could do with pruning these out and adding the TV as a recognised & authorised device?

If some kind soul could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated1

Thanks & kind regards,
-=Glyn=-

Here's the WMC clients topic:
http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010/01 ... light-wmc/

It might also be a permissions issue if you're accessing it over the network. I'm not aware of any device limitations in Twonky.

Although I am now able to see the folders/files on my MSS from my Samsung TV I still cannot play them...any of them.

The Samsung TV throws an error saying something like Not supported filetype' or something similar despite these being standard .jpg .mp3 or .wmv

If I copy these same files from these same folders onto a USB flashdrive and put that in the TV the Samsung can play all of them without any issue whatsoever.

Obviously I am missing something fundamental here and did think about disabling the firewall to see if that might improve matters but even if that did work at the end of the day that would not be the ideal solution.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction (again) so I am able to actually view the media stored on my MSS on my Samsung TV please?

Thanks & kind regards,
-=Glyn=-

You are going to hate me for saying this :) but I gave up with native streaming to my Samsung (although it was wireless) and bought some software to do it for me. The DLNA implmentation on the Samsung is quite fussy and doesn't like to have to figure out the protocol streaming from a WHS. I know the USB drive works but I was frustrated by the network streaming.

I bought Mezzmo and it works a whole lot better once you have set it up. It makes sure that the conversion to the correct DLNA format is done before it gets to your telly. Currently they don't have an add-in and you have to install it on your WHS. Give it a try as its free for 30 days I think and support is excellent. I run it on a 475 and a 490. The 470 struggles a little sometimes but disable the disk demigrator during viewing hours and you will be fine.

Rip.

I'm having similar issues with me Samsung series 6, when I go to the media play & to the music folder on my network server, I can see my stored music but when I try to play an mp3, I get an error message that the file format is not supported. Also this morning I tried to follow instructions for DLNA server, but could not add the files to the shared folders list in the PC Share Manager that I loaded. The "Share Folder (S)" was not active.

Do you have any suggestions?? Or have I missed something here, eg. set-up on the WHS.

In addition, I can play mp3 from a USB connected to the set and also from another networked PC.

Thx.

It's very possible Twonky needs to be updated, the latest is 6.0.34. The Sammy TV's are relatively new in the streaming market so check that first.

I can tell you why this happens:
I have a Samsung TV and had the same problem.

Once you have the TV setup for IP access on the MSS (wired or wireless) then you will see 2 media devices in your menu on the TV.

If you pick one it will say file not supported on everything.
If you pick the other, everything will work OK, if you haven't messed up twonky by trying to update it or uninstall/reinstall it.

Windows on the MSS makes the other device show up in the menu, but it does not support anything, try the other one.

I'm sorry I can't explain it any better, I just know you will see 2 and try both, one should work.

I am looking for something that I can use so I can complety get rid of twonky. Goodluck

I'm glad that worked for you Gardian but I only have one entry for my MSS on the Samsung.

I even tried disabling the firewall on my MSS to no avail...

Still looking for a resolution to this problem if anybody can shed any more light on it?

Thanks & regards,

Drop and disable Twonky and give Serviio a try to see if it works better for you GlynH

Yes, I did that this last weekend.
Serviio is awesome! They even have a add-in for it.

I uninstalled Twonky about 5 mins. after I had a movie going on my Samsung.

You will see the new device in the list when you get the TV ip address correct with MSS>

My TV did not come with the wireless nic which I added, it did have a hard wired nic.

Can you get any internet stuff? Just checking to see if your TV is setup on the network.

OK...have given up on Firefly...didn't even have Twonky installed!

Downloaded & installed the Serviio Add-In and it downloads/installs Java 6 followed by Serviio itself....great stuff.

Setup a share for Video, Music & Photos and it looks like it has done the trick in streaming to my Samsung TV.

Photos work, video works but for some reason I only have some of the tracks by an Artist beginning with A and nothing else?

Guess it might be indexing or something?

Should I stop/disable the Firefly service now?

Any other hints/tips in using Serviio on the MSS?

Thanks & kind regards,
-=Glyn=-

You do not need the firefly service to run serviio. What I am uncertain of is what HP is doing with it but its not part of WHS OEM. I would just disable the service from loading and keep an eye out for any ill effects to your EX470.

As I recall Serviio does take quite sometime to complete its indexing task depending on how you configured it so give it a day and see whats different.

While I played with Serviio for a while I did remove it because I do not require it to stream content to my WD TV Live. I simply prefer to run only ADD-INs which benifit me and while Serviio had no benifit for me I know it would for many others which is why I recommend it to those wanting to dump Twonky.
