After investing in the EX495 and the WD Tv Live, I'm very happy...with one small issue. I have noticed that the WD Tv Live doesn't recognize certain files but hours later will. It also doesn't update as quickly as I'd like. When I move a new movie or show to the server then go to the WD Tv Live to watch it on my plasma either it doesn't show up, or it says its in an unrecognizable format and won't play.

Anyone know how to force it to update quicker? Or do I have to deal with the fact that if I move a tv show over I'll just have to wait a few hours before watching it?

Might depend on how your video library is setup.

But try unplugging the power from the wdtv and then plugging it back in. When you turn on/off the WD tv, it just goes into standby...it doesn't actually "restart".

So there isn't a way to have it update faster? I've also noticed that when I move files to my server then go to play them on the WD it says the file format isn't supported. If I wait an hour or so it plays. It's really strange.

Are you streaming via Twonky? If so you might try mapping to the share and streaming over SMB instead.

I have the WD Live HUB, and it will NOT see new files unless I force a restart, and then it will "compile" any new movies. I like it that way. My PCH does a scan every time you turn it on. With the Hub, I only do it when I have added new files.

By force a restart you mean unplug the WD and wait a few seconds?

Not really knowing what I am doing but having the same frustrating problem I have done the following:
disabled homeshare
in windows media player
under stream drop down at top selected
Quote:
Automatically allow devices to play my media..

and what do you know ... I can now move a new file into the folder and see through WD TV LIVE immediately :D

what I don't know, is am I exposing myself to further security threats in doing this ... that would be bad
