Colleagues,

I have the following setup: a MSS with WHS v1 installed up to the latest patch, latest version of MyMovies, and latest version of the CCCP codecs; a laptop with Win7 up to the latest patch, latest version of MyMovies add-on for WMC and the latest version of the CCCP codecs. When I go to WMC on my XBox 360 to play any movie, an error always comes up saying that I need codecs. I had this setup before and it all worked fine but had to re-do my laptop (you know, it's Windows!) and now I get this error every time. All the movies are either AVI or MP4. Is there anything I am missing?

Best regards.

The 360 is very picky about what codecs it will play. Although you say some of your videos are MP4, for the 360 to be happy, they would need to have 2 channel AAC audio as well.

sgip2000,

One thing I forgot to mention (I just updated my original post) is that I had this setup before and it all worked fine but had to re-do my laptop (you know, it's Windows!) and now I get this error every time.

Anyone, any other ideas?

Best regards,
Jorge

Colleagues,

It looks like my laptop was doing some transcoding before the "re-do" and that's why I was able to play the movies on the XBox 360, I just can't figure out where. I have checked in WMC and in MyMovies on my laptop and can't find anything.

Any ideas?

Regards.

It looks like My Movies supports transcoding...I've never used it. But like sgip2000 said, you need to have the files in the right format...if they aren't natively that you need to have whichever media server your using transcode them when they're served. Ps3MediaServer and Tversity also transcode and should also work with the 360.

From a google search:

"To enable Transcoding in MyMovies, open MyMovies, Tools, Options, drop down to Media Center Extender 1, select Media Center Extender Options, select Transcoding.

MyMovies 3.0x uses Transcode360 already, no need to install it."

you have the media server (MyMovies) running on your laptop and sharing videos on the mss? Why not just install the software on the mss and cut out the middle man? I don't use an MSS or a 360....but that doesn't make sense to me. In this case the transcoding would be done on your server...unless of course you need the performance of your laptop to transcode adequately.

bvone21,

I am using MyMovies for WHS, but since WHS doesn't have WMC I am using my laptop as the extender for the XBox 360. I have the latest versions of MyMovies installed in both the WHS server and the laptop. The movies are either AVI or MP4, I know it's not a problem with the movies because they all played before the "re-do" fine.

Any other ideas?

Best regards.

Colleagues,

Just in case somebody comes across this in the future, I found out why movies wouldn't play: it is because when I installed CCCP I chose not to install FFDShow. So, what I did is I reinstalled CCCP and selected FFDShow as part of it.

Best regards.
