Sorry for the confusion....At the start of the thread I was unsure what format to back up my blu rays..MKV or ISO. At the moment my only option to watch my backed up BR is on my Playstation 3 (until I get a MMS in a couple of weeks). Since the PS3 doesnt play MKV files I was having to encode one movie several times.....I would have one program that would output files in MKV form then I would have to shrink with another program and then use ANOTHER program to make it "PS3 compatable"... I can see how someone will get confused...I just did..

At the moment Im using the free "AnyDVD" program that is decripting my "movie only" BluRay to around 20G ISO...And since I want to save space when I get a MMS Im shrinking that with BDRebuilder to around 4-5G ISO..Im very happy with this process...Only two steps and it only takes around 8 hours for one movie...BUT my free edition of AnyDVD is coming to a end and looking for an alternate sollution....When MakeMKV was sugested, my BDRebuilder program will not recognize a MKV file....Plus I would have to run the MKV file thru another program to use it on my PS3.....I guees Im just trying to save steps..with a finished product in a 4-5G ISO container...

8 Hours!!!!!! ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) That is why I use MakeMKV, takes about 15-20 minutes (Non BluRay) and 30-45 minutes for a BluRay. I would like to play back on my PS3 and Xbox also, but I just bought a Media player ( Popcorn Hour A-200 and just got a WD LIVE HUB, which I REALLY like) which I point to my WHS videos and they play perfectly.

Another thought is, I think that PS3 will play m2ts file. I use TSmuxer, which will convert a MKV to m2ts in about 5 minutes or less.

Here is a list of compatible PS3 file types:

The following types of files can be played under (Video).

Memory Stick Video Format
- MPEG-4 SP (AAC LC)
- H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile (AAC LC)
- MPEG-2 TS(H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, AAC LC)
MP4 file format
- H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile (AAC LC)
MPEG-1 (MPEG Audio Layer 2)
MPEG-2 PS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2, AAC LC, AC3(Dolby Digital), LPCM)
MPEG-2 TS(MPEG2 Audio Layer 2, AC3(Dolby Digital), AAC LC)
MPEG-2 TS(H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, AAC LC)
AVI
- Motion JPEG (Linear PCM)
- Motion JPEG (μ-Law)
AVCHD (.m2ts / .mts)
DivX
WMV
- VC-1(WMA Standard V2)

As you see AVCHD is m2ts. TsMuxer also makes mts.

Hope this helps.

Rhino - the OP wants to compress his files which is why the process takes so long.

Also, keep in mind, the PS3 has cinavia enabled, so any disc that you rip that also has Cinavia you will be unable to play on the PS3 (no matter what format you put it in). DVDFab so far is the only program that has a work around for this on the PS3
