I dont know how many of you use Subsonic but they released a new version which allows for webstreaming of videos and also works on the Android. It is not available for the iPhone yet.
Set up is simple. Just go to the Settings on your Subsonic web and add the local folder path. I have not try it with every file type but avi and mkv plays with no problem.

I have it installed on my server and have a few people testing it out. While testing it on my local intranet the streams are perfect but so far those who have tested it tell me they have to reduce the Kpbs down to 400 or less to get a smoother stream and the quality drops with it as well. Its still wicked cool but I wish it would stream as good as it does in ORB.

As you can see from my pic I have until Feb 8th to use it before having to pay for it which I will do because I have full confidence that this function will continue to improve just as SubSonic has improved over time. Its just a wonderful application.

It beats youtube anyday, and better than netflix over 3G. I have already donated. Have you try full dvd video-ts folders?

My video library is primarily MKV. I have request those who have access to my SubSonic to test the other video formats and play with the Kpbs setting to let me know what the results are. I did test it with a 3G mobil broadband connection and was not overly impressed with the results but I do have to do some more testing.

As for full DVD Video-TS folders I have not used that in years. Damian got me hooked on MKV's and since I started with that format I have never looked back.

If you have others streaming video off your server using SubSonic what if anything do they tell you?

The main complaint is freezen problem when three or more users streaming at once but this might be a server limitation or a connection issue. Two streams at once work fine. Transcoding is always a cpu killer.

I tried and there is no support for Video_TS folder yet, but you can select the VOB files and with a .vob transcoder line you can play the video.

Been using this feature for about a week and LOVE it! Being able to watch all of my videos on my moto droid is awesome! To top it off, I just upgraded my playon software and I found out they have an Android app for that as well! Netflix over 3G seems to work pretty good! Now, I will wait until next quarter and buy the 4G Motorola Bionic (dual-core) and see what I can really do!!

For what its worth, Android plays nice with Playon, Subsonic, Eyecon, My Movies and XBMC (best XMBC remote out there)
