Please forgive me if im just missing this on another thread somewhere, but I cannot seem to find this particular issue discussed.
I can see the files in the video folder. However, I can only play avi files. MP4's (even Twonky's converted MP4's) and MKV's say "Cannot Play". These EXACT same files play over the popcorn hour via a portable 1tb WD HD. Also, to make things even more confusing I AM able to play my MP4's from the HP 495 via my Xbox 360. I really don’t really want to use the Xbox, loud clumsy etc...

Oh and yes, Twonky is set for C-200 to use the Syabas firmware based discription.

Please Help

First off, welcome to the forum :mss:

How are you connecting to your EX495 on your PCH, via UPnP, SMB, NFS, HTTP?

I have mp4 files and have not had any issues playing back on my PCH C-200 (I connect via SMB to my WHS so if you are connecting via UPnP I am thinking that is the problem)

Thank you for your reply
Please forgive my ignorance but I think your talking over my knowlege. Ill break what I do know down to you in at my level and perhaps that will help you understand where i stand.
The settings on the router say that UPnP's on radio button is not checked or off.
When I turn on C-200 I choose the the symbol with the three stacked up blocks (network im sure) to reveal 6 options.
1. Network Browser
2. MEDIASERVER
3. (Desktop): (Login Name 1):
4. MEDIASERVER: 1: Windows Media Connect
5. (Laptop): (Login Name): (Unauthorized)
6. (Desktop): (Login Name 2):

I choose option 2 MEDIASERVER, videos, By Folder, Recorded TV, etc BUT DOES NOT PLAY MP4s

If I choose option 4 MEDIASERVER: 1: Windows Media Connect, my movies play, but my Recorded TV is missing, as are all my MKV's.

You asked: How are you connecting to your EX495 on your PCH, via UPnP, SMB, NFS, HTTP?

If what I have provided here does not answer your question please guide me to be able to do so.

Thank you

For best results, you want to connect via SMB, NFS, or HTTP. from what you wrote it appears you are connecting via UPnP which is causing the issues. Here is an easy guide for setting up smb on your EX495:

http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2009/11 ... -from-whs/

Let me know when you do this and then we will get your C-200 set up and playing mp4s in no time

After you have followed my smb guide, go into your C-200 and do the following, from the main PCH menu:

- Click on Network Browser (three stacked up blocks)
- Click on Workgroup
- You should now see your EX495 (HPServer or whatever you named it). Select it
- You should now see a list of all your shared folders. Highlight the Videos shared folder and press the Blue Button on the remote which will add this share
- A menu should now pop showing the share address, share name, username and password. The share address should show something like "smb://HPServer/Videos". For the share name call it whatever you want (I called mine My Videos). You can leave the username and password blank. Now save your settings.

When you go back to the three stacks up blocks on the main menu you should now see your new videos share. Go into it, navigate to one of your mp4s and see if it plays.

Awesome news. Considering UPnP was supposed to be the all in one solution it is so crippled and restrictive it is not worth using
