Hi:

1. Is it possible to restore a WHS BDBB to a Windows desktop rather than to a windows home server? In other words, in the event of a disaster to my WHS, and if I chose not to fix the hardware on my WHS, would I have to buy another WHS just to restore the information, or could I restore the information to any computer. I tend to prefer to back up to conventional folder and file hierarchies that I can understand, if possible.

2. I think the answer on scheduling of BDBB backups is that it is in the works for some future version?

3. Is easy encryption also in the works (so that the theft or loss of an external drive would not necessarily result in possibility of dissemination of information to others). I believe this was being worked on last year, but unless it's wrapped up into the add-in, in an easy way, I don't think I can do it.

4. What is the point of this discussion of the client in the latest version of BDBB? Does it mean that I can back up the client directly to the BDBB backup without backing up the client to the WHS?

Thanks for any answers you might have time to provide.

jl

No, the WHS client backups are in a proprietary database format that (to my knowledge) no one has managed to fully export from yet. You need WHS to recover files.

Scheduling does not yet exist, if I find a good way to implement it, you might see it in a future version.

BDBB currently can see TrueCrypt encrypted volumes and you can use them as the backup target. I have no plans to implement encryption in BDBB.

A feature was added to the latest version that allows you to set the Notification Thresholds for individual client computers.
