It seems that if I install any antivirus software on my EX490, my connector software breaks. I've tried Avast, F-Secure for WHS and WHSClamAV. If I unistall it, the connector software works. Any ideas ?

This may sound like a dumb question, but it is an error that has been made before...

Are you installing the WHS versions of the AV software on the server or on the client? (Should be on the server.)

With 375+ posts here I probably shouldn't even ask...

FWIW, I have used WHS versions of both Avast! and F-Secure without problem.

Very odd. I imagine you're already doing this but thought it would be good starting point to make sure that any AV you are installing on the EX490 is a WHS version of the AV and you're installing it as via an Add-in. With that out the way and if you're still having issues, after the AV has been installed and has been updated, have you tried uninstalling the connector on the client PC, reboot both server and client PC and then re-install connector software. Otherwise, I'd look at what the firewall might be doing.

Yes, it's the server versions.

I do not have an issue if I install the software on my EX470, but I do on my EX490. Looks like the AV software is blocking the client.

Odd. I just installed Avast for WHS on my EX490 and have had no issues. Something is not playing nice for some reason. If you go to AV control panel for the WHS AV and disable the shields, does it still create problems for your connector? What happens if you disable the firewall on both server and client PC but with AV running?

Hi Diehard,

Did you find this problem with Version 0.1.6 of WHSClamAV? WHSClamAV just installs a regular class library add-in (basically nothing fancy), so if you can install something like WHS Smart it should install fine. It does install two services also but that should not block your Windows Home Server Console in any way.

Cheers,
Al
