Has anyone else encountered a problem with WHS Disk Management reporting back incorrect (scrambled) hard disk serial numbers? On my old DIY WHS, disk management always reported my disk serial numbers correctly, but now they are mixed up (i.e, all the right characters are there, just not in the right order). Take a look at the attached pictures - one is the "details" readout of my system disk from WHS Disk Management, the other is a digital picture of my system disk. Any idea what is causing my serial numbers to scramble in Disk Management?

Yeah, we've seen this with the original MediaSmart servers - the disk controller reported mangled serial numbers just like this. There's a routine in Disk Management that detects which controller you're using ("SiS 0182/1182 RAID Controller" for the 47x line) and runs the serial through a descrambler.

This is a home-built machine, though isn't it?

Yes, this is a homebrew machine. Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard, using the onboard Intel (6 ports) and Gigabyte (2 ports) SATA controllers. Is there something I need to tweak in Disk Management?

Unfortunately, there isn't anything to tweak in Disk Management. Are all the serial numbers scrambled, or just on one of the controllers?

I have 7 hard disks installed, and all 7 serial numbers are scrambled. 6 drives are on the Intel controller, 1 drive is on the Gigabyte controller.
