What is the drill now that MSE won't install on WHS? MapleGrove sent me a link to a working version of MSE, which seems to work fine, BUT, MSE wants to do a client update, which fails, of course. I have hidden this update, and all seems well, but I needed to restart the server AFTER hiding the update. Looking at the Update History add-in shows a red X. I guess this is OK, but a word from the author would help here.

So, my guess is I can NEVER update the MSE client, right? Other than that, all will be well? Any other tips on using MSE and the MSEN add-in?

I will be trying to work an update that allows the latest versions to install, nothing as of yet though. There has been so much development lately that I'm deciding which version to start looking at. Hopefully I will be able to release an updae soon.

Does Microsoft Security Essentials officially support WHS v1 yet? I know if you map your folders to your computer you can get the local install to scan the folders.

There was one beta version that would run on WHS v1. That's what we used when we made the add-in. Unfortunately, MS never released a final that was caompatible with servers. In all honesty, if you don't use the server for browsing or email, but use it as intended, there isn't too much concern for AV as those are the 2 most common attack vectors. I ran WHS for several years without any AV and had no problems. All my attached workstations were up to date and had Avira and MS SE installed. Keeping your workstations clean is the best defense.
