Hi All. Thanks for the useful add-in. Just installed it.

I can only access the health page on my local network. Can't get to it over the Internet using Firefox, IE, or the Android browser. I can access my remote access page (mydomain.hpmediasmart.com) as usual. I tried clicking the link from the Settings page within the console and typing it in directly.

I have this feeling that I'm missing something REALLY obvious and will slap my forehead in the near future #-o , but haven't figured out what I'm doing wrong yet. Ideas? Thanks!

I have not changed any of the default installation settings and I am using v1.0.0.8.

DAVID: Are you attempting the "internet" access from within your home LAN? If so, try it from a friend's house, a library or a hotspot. (Work firewalls may inhibit access so test it from somewhere else first.) It may be your modem and/or ISP prohibit "loopback", a common problem, even though it is actually working.

If that fails please describe symptoms, error indications and, preferably, a screenshot.

Thanks for the suggestions, John. Yes and no to the question about where I'm trying from -- my phone is using 3G and my laptop is using my home LAN. Also, I can use MSS remote access and LogMeIn over the web from within my LAN, so I think this means the loopback isn't an issue (is this reasoning sound?). Oh, and I can use the MSS remote access page over 3G too.

The Firefox error message is just a "Problem loading page" message that also says "The connection has timed out". The browser on my Droid never gives a message, but just can't load the page no matter how long I leave it (several minutes). I haven't found a program to do a screenshot on an unrooted Android phone, but I've attached one from Firefox.

Thanks again.

-David

The URL is in his screenshot above, I was able to access the Remote login page just fine, if you want to me temporary login credentials via PM I can try to log in to the health page.

Ping was fine.

Access using HTTP seems to be fine.

Access using HTTPS fails, both for /HEALTH and for general access.

Is port 443 forwarded properly in your router?

Not sure about port 443. I have not forwarded any ports other than whatever was done during the initial setup. That was a couple years ago, so I don't remember what I may have done at that time. When I login to my router I see this line (Action/Name/Source/Destination/Protocol):
Allow Virtual Server HTTPS WAN,* LAN,192.168.0.xxx TCP,443

The "xxx" is actually the IP address of my MSS.

Gotta run, but will check back and get some temp credentials setup later on today.

Thanks to both of you!

p.s. Deleted the jpg so my hpmediasmart domain doesn't somehow become a target. Not sure if that is overly cautious, but better safe than sorry. Happy to PM it again to the regulars here.

Port 443 is open and works fine, remember that he's using TZO with secure web forwarding enabled so the url is https://www.servername.hpmediasmart.com, if you leave off the www you're pinging a TZO server and it will time out.

Edit: This could be a bug in WHS Health, I'll need to spend a little more time and investigate if I need to generate a different URL when Secure Web Forwarding is enabled for TZO domains.

I don't have a good grasp of networking/ports, so I am not positive I did this correctly. The choices my router gave me were TCP, UDP, or both. It was set to TCP and I changed it to both. Does that sound correct? Did not solve the access problem as far as I can tell so far. Will setup the temp credentials now...
EDIT: Just saw Alex's last post -- so should I change it back to TCP only?

Doesn't matter, TCP only is fine, Both won't hurt. PM me a temporary login and password, please, if you want me to get past the Remote login page. Other option is to change the WHS Health options to not require authentication.

What is the advantage of requiring login credentials to view the health pages? Is there any information that could be useful to an attacker? If not, then it does seem easier to just set it so it doesn't require authentication and I'll probably go that route.

I sent a PM with the info. Thanks again.

Thanks for the PM with the login details, I was able to access the WHS Health page with no issues via the following URL:
https://www.servername.hpmediasmart.com/health/

Great, thanks! That works for me now too. I had been using the default address from the WHS settings page which leaves out the "www". I thought I had tried that url too, but apparently not. Works great on my Droid too. Just needed the right url I guess! I still might get rid of the login requirement to make it quicker to access if it isn't a security risk, but will wait to hear back on that question. Thanks again for troubleshooting. :-)

And I am now also able to get to that log-in screen. Something changed... (Did you change to allow both protocols? Than may have been the problem; it has been for some others -- although NOT with HEALTH.)

ALEX: Yes, I HAD added the http://WWW....!
