That's a bug and I know how to fix it, I'll do so soon and we'll post a new build. Thanks for letting us know about it!

However, I don't see the usefulness of this add-in if you don't have Remote Access turned on for your server?

I know on a working system it will, so it will be interesting to see if you can delete it or if something has it locked as the error suggests. Then the question is what!

I checked to see if my health xml by running the health.xml URL.

and it works. I also rebooted to ensure that I will have a clean install.

When I installed the WHS Health addin on my EX485, I had two errors on mine during installation. I include screen shots:

what should I check before I try again??

I want to look at the page from my Nokia N800 which I use around the house. The N800 is a small WiFi tablet something like an iPod Touch. I already use it to stream music from my WHS and get e-mail alerts from Remote Notification on it. And, I may turn on Remote Access someday.

Thanks for working on a solution for a future release.

I gave a try to deleting the XML file to see if it would rebuild itself. Unfortunately, for me, it did not rebuild itself. Seems locked out. Then tried uninstalling PP3 and reinstalling it to see if that would fix it. But, it didn't fix it. No XML file at all now. Very odd.

@BlondAngel - Can you please check the Additions log on the server for errors? It's located in:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Home Server\logs

@otherjim - Gotcha. We've released 1.0.0.8 tonight that includes a fix for this, you can get it from the Add-Ins page. Be sure to uninstall the old version before attempting to install this new one.

@Texas, sorry to hear that. :( I'll be sure to let you know if I hear of a resolution to this...

I bet the error is coming from the point that your wix installer is not using a custom action in case the user is not using default settings for IIS. I.E the default website is using a different port than 80 or has multiple headers. Wix will fail horribly like this if you are not explicitly stating the port number or header information.

Though I could be wrong, however I was wondering if you had done any of this when you created this web application.

Thanks snowdins, I think Cougar is in discussion with the OP and discovered that he had a multi-homed Home Server with dual nics and dual sites running on both 80 and 443. A bit of a mess to anticipate in Wix but Nigel got him straightened out. 8)

Thanks for jumping in though; I had a peek at how you were doing it... that must have been a real challenge to come up with what you ended up with on your latest release!

How are you guys dealing with different cultures/languages as well as custom settings in IIS with WIX, if I can ask?

I'll let Cougar answer that one, as he's the Wix master. I only know enough to place the files I need, install a service, the basics.

When installing, I got the same issue and BlondAngel. Here is the output of the log:
Action start 23:21:01: InstallFinalize.
ConfigureIIsExec: A matching web object in memory was found, but the web object in memory has no associated base
ConfigureIIsExec: Error 0x80070002: Failed to find Web base
ConfigureIIsExec: Error 0x80070002: Failed to get base of web: DefaultWebSite for VirtualDir
ConfigureIIsExec: Error 0x80070002: failed while processing WebVirtualDirs
MSI (s) (F8!B4) [23:21:40:453]: Product: WHS Health -- Error 26004. Failed while processing WebVirtualDirs. (-2147024894 )

Error 26004. Failed while processing WebVirtualDirs. (-2147024894 )
Action ended 23:21:40: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.
Action ended 23:21:57: INSTALL. Return value 3.
Property(S): StartMetabaseTransaction = ScaConfigureIIs
Property(S): RollbackMetabaseTransaction = ScaConfigureIIs

I do have iis listening to different ports, so thats probably the issue. Stinks.

As youv'e noticed IIS is a pig with MSI; it's getting better but still needs some work and we still have some areas to handle the installer better. Localisation in Wix is pretty good though. Are you having issues then?

Figured out why this did not install correctly. I had Logs Gone Wild that had filled my C partition, so I deleted them, uninstalled and reinstalled PP3 and brought the page up in Windows Media Center. The page is there, so the add-in installs fine. It looks like PP3 did not have room to write the page and so it didn't!
