Hi There

When I got to Step 4. Open http://servername/blog from your browser and enter the user account and password you created in step 3.

I am not prompted to type in a user name or password.

I get the HTTP 403 Forbidden error.

I am using IE 8

Any help would be great!

thanks

Karla

copy the test.php file from wwwroot into this folder, does that display?

I copied the test.php file to the new blogsite location. When I type in the address for the second site, I get a page called "PHP Test Script" and then a number of tables. I'm not sure what I'm looking for, but one thing does stand out to me. Towards the bottom of the page is a table titled 'PHP Variables'. In that table is a variable called '_SERVER["DOCUMENT_ROOT"]' with a value of 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot'. I think it should read the location of my second site, but I don't know what file I need to update.

Hey everyone. I've installed mySql, PHP, and wordpress all from the WHS addins. All installed with no errors. I'm trying to follow the wiki...but right off the bat I can't access the https://servername/pma, or in my case https://bunker/pma. I get a "page cannot be displayed" error. Any ideas how to get past this first hurdle? I've tried accessing from both my server, and from outside..no luck.

Thanks,

Dave

Sorry, I forgot to mention to delete the config file. in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\2ndblog delete the wp-config.php file. That should force you to setup your new database etc when you first go to the page.

I have successfully installed wordpress on WHS. Though I didn't specifically use the add-in, I'm hoping I can find some valuable advice here.

My wordpress is currently installed under "C:\Inetpub" I have been trying to extract the "wp-content" folder out to the D:\ drive. The primary reason is to keep the media uploads away from the small C:\ drive and instead store them in the pooled storage space. The secondary reason is to have a common "wp-content" folder that can be shared between multiple wordpress installs.

Does anyone have any specific advice around achieving this in IIS?

Great add-in and worked fine using the wiki and directions. One comment/request is that you would make this add-in using the wordpress Multiuser install vs. the single. I would like to be able to provide all my family members with their own blog space. I know that you can do this manually but it would be nice if it was as easy as this install was. Any chance that this maybe done in the future?

Yes; don't see why not. I'll have a read up when I'm finished with the current list of projects :D

Hi. I am running WHS and have installed MYSQL and PHP to get to Wordpress. With some tweaking here and there, everything is working ok... except one major issue. When a new user registers, the server or blog will not send validation email. I am not sure what else to do and wasn't sure who to ask, cause this could be a server issue, not a plugin. but can someone help? I am not sure what else to do or how to check if it is Wordpress or something else. Perhaps I need to open port 110 in my router firewall?

Wordpress is trying to send emails from your server which is not set up to send mails and is likely blocked by your ISP. I'd instead recommend you use your ISPs SMTP server, there's a couple ways to do this.

Oh man! Thank you! It works like a charm with my gmail account! I do worry when I install plugins. I have Wordpress 2.9.2 installed and apparently there are tons of plugins out there that are not compatible. I ran into that issue many times. But thanks for your assistance yakuza!

Cool, glad that helped. The Wordpress plugin page is pretty good about listing compatibility, plus I only install plugins that have a high reputation and appear trusted. It's too easy to open a security hole or break something. :)

I had previously installed this prior to a system failure of my mediasmart server (had to put in new drive and do factory reset)
Things worked well before, but trying to set this up again I have ran into some issues.
Few questions.

Each time I go to //servername/pma I get certificate errors thst I can't seem to resolve?

I was able to setup the new database followng the instructions.

When I make changes in wordpress admin, the page always goes blank and I have to physcially retype the //servername/blog to access again - in addition I often get a blank page when I try to access either //servername/blog or servername/pma and I have to hit page reload or close the brownser and re-open. Sometimes I get in, sometimes I don't!
How do I stop this from happening?
Any ideas?

Stephan--

Not sure what your issue is here. I think you are asking how to make Wordpress open up to another URL. The installation process asks you where to put your Wordpress blog. I'd go back and redo the installation, and pay attention to this post:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress

In particular, refer to this section of the installation:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Famous 5-Minute Install
Here's the quick version of the instructions, for those that are already comfortable with performing such installations. More detailed instructions follow.

1.Download and unzip the WordPress package, if you haven't already.
2.Create a database for WordPress on your web server, as well as a MySQL user who has all privileges for accessing and modifying it.
3.Rename the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php.
4.Open wp-config.php in a text editor and fill in your database details as explained in Editing wp-config.php to generate and use your secret key password.
5.Place the WordPress files in the desired location on your web server:
■If you want to integrate WordPress into the root of your domain (e.g. http://example.com/), move or upload all contents of the unzipped WordPress directory (but excluding the directory itself) into the root directory of your web server.
■If you want to have your WordPress installation in its own subdirectory on your web site (e.g. http://example.com/blog/), rename the directory wordpress to the name you'd like the subdirectory to have and move or upload it to your web server. For example if you want the WordPress installation in a subdirectory called "blog", you should rename the directory called "wordpress" to "blog" and upload it to the root directory of your web server.

Hint: If your FTP transfer is too slow read how to avoid FTPing at : Step 1: Download and Extract.
6.Run the WordPress installation script by accessing wp-admin/install.php in a web browser.
■If you installed WordPress in the root directory, you should visit: http://example.com/wp-admin/install.php
■If you installed WordPress in its own subdirectory called blog, for example, you should visit: http://example.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php
That's it! WordPress should now be installed.
----------------------------------------------------------

If this does not help you with your identified problem, please come back and post some specifics. We can help you out if we can tell what issue you are having, ok?

Jim
