Sure, send Nigel aka Cougar a PM if you'd like some help, he's the resident Wix expert. Plus the WHS SDK has examples of how to build an Add-In.

I was going to install & try this but the download link seems to be failing....

I get the message: "This shared file or folder has been removed. If you feel this is by mistake, please email either the owner of this shared file/folder or email support@box.net for Box.net Technical Support."

Well then this has been an interesting day. And that whole post I made last night about why I chose to do the things I did. Yeah bad .. bad bad bad bad bad.

Whiist has some issues going on with security that make the site open to anyone. Also any changes in whiist to a website forces the website to say "Service Unavailable".

yeah sweet.

So my new installer is now compiling, sets up IIS (creates website and application pool) and installs into the remote console. I will keep you updated on it and release it as soon as its tested and all that other stuff =). Why the hell didn't I do this in the first place..... no idea.

update: I have taken the download links down due to security holes in the current setup.

I will have a new version up when the new installer is completed.

Rejoice - the new installer will be like all other addons. You will install P80 through the remote console. No more steps to get confused on and no more hassles.

Sorry for the inconvenience but this is the best thing to do at this point.

If you currently have P80 installed, make sure you have the site as private(public or private side of the whs site does not matter) and that you select which users you want to have access to the site.

If you selected to have P80 on the private side of WHS site then you will have to logon twice to get into P80. Again sorry for this inconvenience.

Actually you can leverage the WHS authentication for single sign-on, this is the most robust and easy way to do it as you take advantage of the configured users with Remote Access enabled. Look at Web.config, in particular this:
Code:

<authentication mode="Forms">
      <forms name="RemotePortalAuth" loginUrl="/remote/logon.aspx" protection="All" path="/" timeout="12000" requireSSL="true" />
    </authentication>

Edit: And let me know if you want me to test prior to your releasing the new version publicly. 8)

This is indeed very good news. Best news all day. A guy over at WGS posted the same thing as well. Man this WHS community is awesome!

One question. Does this web.config setting apply to only the private site links or to the public site as well? I see SSL required as well at the remote directory, which makes me think this only applies to the private site links.

web.config applies to whatever directory it is located inside.

My application has only a settings tab in the WHS console. I need to get the clicked event when a button is clicked in the setting tab. Basically in this tab I have a combo box and a button. When they click the button I need to change a xml file. I am not the expert programmer and wondering since the button and combo box is being drawn at run time how I get the clicked and selected events? Any help would be awesome. Below is the code explaining a little of what I am doing:

Friend Class SettingsControl
Inherits Microsoft.HomeServer.Controls.WizardPage
Public Sub New(ByVal width As Integer, ByVal height As Integer)

Omitted ...

Dim cmbSecurity As New Microsoft.HomeServer.Controls.WizardPageComboBox
cmbSecurity.Items.Add("Public")
cmbSecurity.Items.Add("Private")
cmbSecurity.SelectedItem = "Public"
cmbSecurity.Parent = lnbSecurityContainer
cmbSecurity.Width = 75
cmbSecurity.Location = New System.Drawing.Point(120, 140)

Dim btnSubmitSecurity As New Microsoft.HomeServer.Controls.QButton
btnSubmitSecurity.Parent = lnbSecurityContainer
btnSubmitSecurity.Text = "Save"
btnSubmitSecurity.Name = "btnSubmitSecurity"
btnSubmitSecurity.Location = New System.Drawing.Point(220, 140)

This is probably programming 101, but im just not evening googling this at this point.

I'm not familiar with VB, my add-ins are all C#. In Visual Studio when creating the GUI, I simply double-click the control in Designer and it brings me to the code for the OnClick event.

You cant double click a control in run time though.

Is there a way to design a settings tab in the design portion of the IDE? If so that's not really documented to well, and Im not sure how you would even do that. Everything I have done is at run time, thus nothing in designer.

Wait... am I going about this whole process wrong? Do you actually drop in items from the toolbox and onto the designer? thus generating automated code in Private Sub InitializeComponent() ?

I gotcha, yes, I've always built mine in designer.

Have you seen this example for creating a Settings tab?
