Cougar

A more detailed PM back at you, but I essentially did the MySql install myself using directions found online (including this site).

If *I* can do it, anyone can. My specialty is breaking networks, not making things work (just ask my wife, a network admin!!). I will admit, she stood by in case I came up with a question or hit a sticky spot, but 90% of the install of MySql (d/l from their website) and WordPress (latest edition d/l from their site) was me.

It might not have been the most efficient or elegant install, but it works. And, IMO, that's what counts. :)

Thanks for the quick reply,
Tim

Thanks Tim. Yes, the Add-In just takes the logic away so there is nothing to stop you installing any compatible software on the server. I'll upload the later release that fixes the issue you had.

This Add-In is for WHS v1, not for WHS 2011.

Thanks for making this installer (and the PHP one!)

I'm running the PHP Installer 1.0.4 and the 0.0.9 MySQL version.

When I try to change the password for the user admin via PHPMyAdmin, I get this:
Code:
Error
SQL query:

SET PASSWORD = PASSWORD(  '***' )

MySQL said:

#1044 - Access denied for user ''@'localhost' to database 'mysql'

I don't actually see a database called mysql, just "information_schema"... should I reinstall MySQL? Is something borked?

Thanks in advance.

Do you get this when logging on as root?

A winner is you! I had been logging in as "admin"... Yeah, I'm not too knowledgeable about MySQL, haha.

Thanks!

I have your addin installed, thank you for making it a smooth install, my problem is getting the service in windows to restart with one of the other configs like my-large.ini

I go into the registry and change the path for the original :

c:\Progra~1\mysql\bin\mysqld.exe --defaults-file=C:\Progra~1\mysql\my-whs.ini MySQL.WHS

to

c:\Progra~1\mysql\bin\mysqld.exe --defaults-file=C:\Progra~1\mysql\my-large.ini MySQL.WHS

and startup will fail unless i change it back. I run a couple websites for a gaming clan on my custom built home server and one game stats server. It uses a perl script to receive logs from the game via udp, then process them and respond to game server while storing the data via mysql. the website front end does a lot of sorts and I wanted to beef up the mysql server to handle the larger requests that the server is getting. If you have a walkthrough for that, please let me know as I've looked through this board and found no one asking, nor a walk through about it either. I also didn't find anything about it in the documentation in the mysql folder in program files.

I don't have a walkthrough for it, could probably piece it together in the logs as to whats going on.

I'd personally take a copy of the my-whs.ini and update the key settings compared with the one you are playing with though. The template one looks a little light.

I have succesfully installed mysql server and phpadmin and can access mysql through phpadmin.

However I can't link to mysql with any database clients (e.g. mysql workbench) nor can i succesfully ping the homesever on port 3306 (although a null port ping works fine). I have tried connecting via both 192.168.xxx.xxx and servername:3306

any idea what Im doing wrong?

Windows Firewall on the server is probably blocking the connection, I'd check the firewall exceptions on the server.

From a post on page 6 of this topic, I believe 3306 is the correct port that you need to open in Windows Firewall on the server. If that's still not working, I'm not sure what else could be the problem. You mention port 3006 above so make sure you didn't typo.
