Hi I just bought the family pack 3 year for $148 and I'm having a problem. I installed the software on the Server and then the Desktop. The sever install went fine however in the Avast Add In tab it does not show the desktop software as active. How Can I get the Server Avast Add In to see the desktop Avast installation?

Have you deployed the license to the desk top from the server? If not, do that first and then try restarting the desktop. Seems like that is what I had to do but it has been awile.

I had a similar problem on one of my client computers.

The solution for me was to remove and manually add the "avast! Antivirus Service" on the client pcs firewall (Windows bulit in firewall).

I figured it out. I had to edit the home servers file \windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. I had to manually add in each computers name and IP address. I also had to open up a port 16107 in the Windows firewall.

all my computers are working now and showing up properly. Seems the software should work out of the box considering I paid $150 for 3 years Family Pack Lic

I hear what you say dratifk but just to renew the subscription on 2 x 5 pack Norton AntiVirus (which obviously doesn't include a WHS version) would cost £105 ($150) here in the UK.

Multiply that by two to cover for 10 users and then again by three for the number of years and that gives a total of £630 ($915) for three years not including the WHS protection.

I could live with configuring my firewall to save nearly $800

Don't tell Avast or the price may go up...

Kind regards,
-=Glyn=-

I think this problem occur when HP update 1.3-RC1 is applied to the system!

I had to do a server recovery and applied all updates, after that i installed Avast... and no go!!
Before i did the server recovery everything was fine... and Avast was installed long time before the latest HP update.

EDIT!

Did a rollback and it did not work after that to :x

I tried all the suggestions that i found in Avast support forum without any luck.

The MSI option is suitable especially for users who don't connect to the WHS any other way than by means of the WHS Console, and is the prefered way of installation (especially on HP MediaSmart systems where system security policies are preconfigured so that it is not easy to run executable programs downloaded from the Internet).

To use the MSI installer, follow these steps:

1. Download the MSI installation package and place it to the WHSERVERSoftwareAdd-ins folder (replace WHSERVER by the name of your WHS machine).
2. Start the WHS Console.
3. Click the Settings button, and navigate to the Add-ins page.
4. On the Available page, you should now see the entry for avast! Antivirus. Click the Install button.

In case you later decide to uninstall the program, you can use that via the WHS Console as well (avast! WHS Edition will have an entry in the list of installed add-ins, from which it can be uninstalled).

Adding my clients IPs in the hosts file actually did the trick. Awesome!

Needless to say that the support did nothing at all for me and my problem the last couple of weeks. I did not even get a reply (apart from some funny installation-instructions) as of today.
