I have been playing with the 15 day free trial of Digital Archound.
It works way better than I had pictured in my head.

We have been using the free online bill pay that my bank provides for sometime now, But I had been hesitant about changing my accounts to E Delivery of statements.

I always felt the need to have a copy in my hand and trying to download copies and keep sorted on the computer was a hasel for me.

With this add-on I can see the potential to go paperless and get rid of the paper shredder once and for all.

To bad its not free :( But for me the $79 price point is a small enough price to pay for the convenince.

Thanks for the info. I just "quickly" looked at this and will certainly give it better look as time permits. I have been attempting to go totally paperless and currently "scan" and "shred".

If you don't mind let me know how the bank statements part works for you.

TIA

I'm set up for e delivery & paper delivery while I watch and see.

As far as bank statements go you save your statement to your MY Documents folder and Digital Archound grabs it up.

You then name it click if you want it time stamped and click save.

You can have Digital Archound set up to auto delete the one in your My Documents folder or leave a copy there.

I think everything stored with Digital Archound is encrypted for security.

Please do offer your feedback about this product. I'm currently using Paperport to store some of my critical documents. The workflow is adequate but if Digital ArcHound provides an even better workflow for scanning, storing, and recalling than Paperport, then I would be interested in it.

I really like this add-in alot.

I'm not very good at giving feedback on this kind of stuff because like everything else I talk about this is the first and only time I have ever used a product like this.

I don't have anything else to compare it to.

They do offer a 14 day free trial for anyone who would like to try it out.

The guy who built it told me that he will have a Free PDF printer for Vista to use with it available within about 30 days.

(They already have one for Windows XP)

That will save from having to buy one if you wanted to scan hardcopies in.

These are the kind of Add-ins that I think are needed to get more people excited about WHS.

I have spoken with maybe 15 to 20 people about WHS & MMS.

They all give me the deer in the headlight look. Even the so called IT guys at work.

I'm not exaggerating when I say " I know more than they do about alot of this stuff! Especially about the hardware side."

And I hardly know anything.

These guys are suppose to have college degrees but, I swear if you call them with a question it's like they just read you an answer from a book. If the book doesn't have an answer they can't help you.

I quit calling and started trying to fix it myself.

I usually manage to fix it Or, I break it so bad they have to send me a new one.

Either way it gets fixed.

I have invited Glenn Hansen & his team to come visit this site and maybe field any questions that have or will come up about this product.

That sounds great! Your posts are getting me very interested in this -- especially as I have about 6-months of paper to file away, an effort I really do hate. Of course if I change my workflow to replace/convert the paper to "bits" it will also mean more disk requirements...

I checked out the Archound website ( http://www.archound.com/ ) but do not really understand the advantage of the WHS version over a client version, especially with the price differential. Can you (or they) comment on that some?

By the way, you can probably use PrimoPDF ( http://www.primopdf.com/ ) for PDF creation; it works beautifully with Vista. Or is there something special built into the Archound versions?

I have one question about the licence. If you buy the WHS Version is there also a Client version comming with or is there no need to have a clientversion then?

I couldn't tell you if one is better than the other.

I was looking strickly at price.

Adobe: $299
Digital Archound: Free

I had decided to wait on the free one & didn't even think about if there were other free ones out there.

I did send an email to Digital Archound asking if the $59 PDF creater I found at Best Buy would work.

They feel that most PDF creators should work but had not tested them all yet.

This is my first try at going "Green"

We just recently took the plunge into online banking and bill paying.

I like the idea of scanning all of my important documents into the server and then locking them up in the safe deposit box at my bank.

Yet when I need an account number or document for whatever reason I can easily find it.

I'm sure someone who knows what they are doing could do this without the Add-On.

For me it was always a hasel trying to store things on a computer because I had to create folders & then remember which fold they were in & all of the stuff that entailed.

This Add-On just simplified that for me.

Once you load the add-on you go to a folder and click on the Digital Archound client software it loads onto you computer and you run it frome there.

You use the client on your computer and it store all of your documents on the server.

I'm sorry to say that I don't know how the stand alone one compares to the WHS version.

That is one of the reasons why I have ask Glenn & his team to come on over to the forum and field some questions.

I recieved an email today from Glen & his team telling me that there would be an update coming in the next few weeks with several new user requested functions & improvements.

Not seeing any reason to shell out the extra $$ for a server version at this point as I would only use it from one client anyway. Guess I will wait until the Archound folks join up and add some details here...

Thanks for mentioning this though -- it is certainly on my "watch list".

I checked out the web site, this looks pretty nifty. I've had osme experience with commercial document management - it's NOT cheap. Now all I need to go is get a scanner. Although I think I cna already get most everything in PDF format - I already don't get a paper statement from the bank or my electric bill, just notifications when they arrive. Cable and cell phone I still get paper bills from but pay online, plus PDFs of the bills are available online. Dunno that I'd need to save copie sonmy own storage, as I can go back to any point online and view the old bills. Maybe for other important papers.. but now I'm talking myself out of needing this product. LOL.
