I presume you are referring to support for the EX48x servers? Modifying the BIOS is a non-trivial, potentially dangerous operation and this has not been a high priority for me, sorry.

I've released version 1.0.0.8 which fixes the issue cavediver found where the Advanced Settings weren't preserved. See the first post for more details and the new download link.

Yakuza,

Thanks for the new version. I can happily report that the new version has fixed the advanced fan speed adjustment reset problem. I've restarted my MSS several times this afternoon and my Fan Control settings have remained set per my preferences.

Nice add-in. Any chance for a revision for the Acer H340 Media Server ?

I'm still trying to get my hands on an Acer, but it will depend on how the fan speed is controlled. I suspect that since it was manufactured by the same company that builds the HP boxes the fan controls will be in the BIOS, same as the other MediaSmart Servers after the EX47x series.

Great add-in :sanjuan:

But, I just upgraded the CPU in my EX470. Now the upper fan runs at full speed, no matter what I do. Temps are ok.
I uninstall the add-in. Upper at full speed. I reinstall add-in. Upper at full speed.
Lower fan can be fully controlled.

Is there a way to re-set the fans to factory using the registry? Obviously, but how?

First, WELCOME to the world of MSS/WHS! Good to have you aboard!

Check the fan connector to the backplane. It may not be properly/firmly seated after the CPU upgrade. Also check to see if any dirt in the actual connector.

I'll second that. Installed it after I upgraded my EX470 with a AMD 3800+ CPU a couple of weeks ago. Immediately was able to lower the temps from 48-50c to a steady 34-36c at idle. Fans hum along at about 1600-1700rpm. Up about 200 from where I was before I installed it. Some day I need to read the readme so I really know how to use it... :o

At first boot after the upgrade I had miss-connected the upper fan resulting in it not spinning at all. ALARM.
Fixed that. Since then I have reconnected it 3 times including backplane and the connector in the font. I have NOT checked/reconnected the connector next to the CPU heatsink. But I doubt that the fan gets any signals from there.

Next step would be to re-seat the backplane.

Yes, and that has been done no less than 3 times as well. I have even checked and measured the pins for the fan plug to other points at the backplane in search of bad soldering. No go. Nothing wrong with the hardware IMO.

No luck, upper fan still spinning at full pace,- wrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The "Factory Defaults" button will reset the registry.

It's possible when you mis-connected the fan that you either damaged the fan or the connector. You can try swapping the upper and lower fan connections to see if the full-speed behavior follows the fan or stays with the connector (meaning, if you swap them and the bottom fan now spins at full speed then there is likely an electrical issue, and if the top fan still spins at full speed then you can suspect a fan issue).

I did the same thing while swapping CPU's a while back. I connected the fan improperly and from them on it's full speed no matter what. We fried somethin, dude. Oops :D.

MitchSchaft: Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. That warmed. :)

yakuza: Great input. Why did I not think of that? The problem stayed with the position/plug. Damn.

I'll find a more silent fan and replace it...
