I recently had a problem with my Boom not connecting to the server. I fixed that with a firmware update, but noticed something else while figuring that out. I've been running for awhile on Squeezebox Server 7.5.3, but my server has continued to download new updates. All of them are labeled "Logitech Media Server", with releases 7.7.6, 7.9.3, 8.0.0, 8.1.0, & 8.1.1 ready to install.

I saw an old thread on another site that said the early LMS releases require a Microsoft C++ 2010 SP1 update, but the file no longer appears to be available from Microsoft.

1. Does anyone know if the C++ module is required for the newest releases? If not, could I go straight from 7.5.3 to 8.x?

2. I I have to have it, does anyone have the C++ software update install package, hopefully in an .msi file? Can you please make it available, with install instructions?

3. My understanding is that I have to uninstall 7.5.3 before attempting to install a newer version. Is it possible to/how can I revert back to 7.5.3 if I'm unable to get a newer version working?

I'm OK right now, so the most important thing is to not break the server functionality. However, it's only going to get harder to get current, so I'd like to give it a shot.

Thanks for reading my request!

I'm running the 8.1.1 release from January on my Ubuntu server, it works well. It looks like they still generate the WHS specific .msi file but I've not tried to install it on WHS. You should be able to re-install your current version if the new one doesn't work for you.
