Hi - I am new to the forum but am interested by this (now old) thread. I am also trying to update to version 7.7 of LMS. I encountered the requirement to install the C++ 2010 redistributable. I searched here and elsewhere and learned how to install software directly on the MSS (http://www.mediasmartserver.net/wiki/in ... the_server). First I moved the software to the shared folder "Software" on the server then I used RDC (from my mac) to connect to the WHS main page as Administrator. I then navigated to the ".exe" file, double clicked and got the "... you may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item" error that I was expecting. I had hoped to then open the file's properties and click on the "unblock" button that had been described elsewhere (http://www.mediasmartserver.net/wiki/in ... lock_files). Unfortunately when I looked at the properties of this file "vcredist_v86.exe" this "unblock" button is not present. At the bottom of the GeneraI page I have the Attributes row but not the Security row which should contain the "unblock" button is not present:(

Hope someone can help.

I am running Server Software 3.3.1.35433.

Thanks for the suggestion. If I understand correctly you used the control panel/"add or remove programs" to install the C++ package. Is that right, and if so how does this sidestep the permissions issue that I am facing? DId you have similar problem or is this just how you did the install. Many thanks for your help. I haven't had a chance to load the add-in myself yet.

Under AAC I went into My Computer, located Software in the shares folder in D: and double clicked to execute. I don't remember having any permission issues this way.
