My server is set to sleep at 11pm and wake at 8am

Recently, the server goes to sleep at 11pm an wakes on schedule at 8am but, about 15 minutes later the server is shut down completly.

If I power the server on with the power button, it does not shut back down 15 minutes later.

At 8am, as the server is powering up, Remote Notification sends me the error " Storage Status ". A few minutes later Remote Notification sends the " Cleared Storage Status" error.

A few minutes later, the server is completly turned off, when I walk back into the room.

Any ideas?

Hey Chris, I've let Martin (the developer) know about this topic, but you may want to visit his dedicated Support forum for a faster response.

Hi Chris,

Have you installed any other Add-In/Software recently?
Please use Remote Desktop to connect to your server, then open Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer. Look at System and Application protocol. Is there any error/warning around the time when you encountered the shutdown?

Kind Regards
Martin

I uninstalled and then reinstalled the add-in before reading these responses and it seems to have corrected the behavior.

Last night everthing worked perfectly.

Regards
Chris

Issue is back. :(

Im starting to think that this problem is not a Lights Out problem but something else.

I believe that the lights out issue might just be a symptom for another problem.

4:30 PM is when I got home I pushed the power button.

Give it a go.

The two "errors" above are only notifications that the power event (suspend) had been handled by the application.
An unexpected shutdown (a crash) is almost always another problem (driver etc.).

Martin

I have this add-in and its great. I will be purchasing it shortly. I do have a question, on the EX495 WHS connector it have a Wake server option, does lights out respond to this magic packet?

I'm not sure I understand your question. What are you talking about, WHS Connector on a client machine does not send a magic packet.

Lights-Out includes a client application which is used to wake the server (either on demand or automatically).

A magic packet coming from the network is handled by BIOS and OS, Lights-Out is not in charge here. Required settings are documented here: http://www.homeserversoftware.com/lo/wh ... ements.htm (WHS v1) or here http://www.homeserversoftware.com/lo/wh ... ements.htm (WHS 2011).

Or are you talking about the WHS Console?

Kind regards
Martin

The connector Icon does send a wake server command that Lights out understands.

What I am having issues with though is getting my iphone app to wake the server or using the domain name to wake the server (setting in lights out). Not sure if I have to do anything special, I have port 50000 set for wake on lan programs in my router, but that is all.

So I cant seem to get this to work. I have WOL set in the bios as the EX495 has that feature enabled by default. When I try getting it to work its a huge no go. I need to say I trying it off site either from my work machine or from my Phone. I can Remote into the server from both devices if the machine is awake.

Your router must support port forwarding to the local broadcast address to make wake-over-internet work.
You have to forward UDP on port 9 to port 9 and your local network broadcast address (typically 192.168.x.255).

Without support for broadcast addresses it does not work. Unfortunately most SoHo Routers block the broadcast address.
