Hi All,

I've been using BDBB from a couple of years. It has been a reliable until recently. When I tried to backup the database (~400GB) to a 1T USB drive, BDBB quits at about 221GB point. I got the following error in the event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: WHS BDBB Settings
Event Category: None
Event ID: 0
Date: 3/4/2011
Time: 8:53:13 AM
User: N/A
Computer: BACKUPSERVER
Description:
System.IO.IOException: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)
at System.IO.File.InternalCopy(String sourceFileName, String destFileName, Boolean overwrite)
at Microsoft.HomeServer.HomeServerConsoleTab.WHSBDBB.HomeServerSettingsExtender.backupBackgroundWorker_DoWork(Object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e)

Does anyone know the cause of this error ? I've already reformatted the external USB drive just to be sure.

Thanks.

Most reports of this seem to end up being related to a drive issue, either on the server or the backup drive. I'd be checking your server drives with the Home Server SMART Add-In as well as chkdsk.

Edit: There's a few other threads here that can have other suggestions, a search should turn them up.

Have you tried our Add-Ins?
