Hello all,

As some of you know, I'm not just the founder of MediaSmartServer.net, I'm also the Lead Test Engineer for the MediaSmart Server at Hewlett-Packard. This site was created as a hobby effort on my part because I am enthusiastic about the product, and is in no way sanctioned, supported, or authorized by HP. My managers know I run this site and passively approve of it because it's a good resource for the community, but I pay all expenses and participate on my personal time.

However, as of midnight on Friday 3/28 I will no longer be an HP employee. I've decided to leave HP and take advantage of a new opportunity that's been made available to me. It's been an amazing experience creating a brand new product like the MediaSmart Server and seeing the enthusiasm with which it's been received by you all. The decision to leave was the toughest I've had to make in my career, but I believe it's in my best interest for my personal development.

What does that mean here? Honestly, not much at all. The forums will stay up and running, and I will be helping out as much as I can in my free time. I will lose some insight into the MS and HP roadmap, of course, but I couldn't really share any of that with you all anyway. :) Myself and others have some great ideas for new add-ins that we're working on, so watch out for those coming soon.

Oh, and yes, I'm the "alex on sj-build.fc.hp.com", it was a network share used during the system image building process that I neglected to remove from the sysprep image. 8)

Alex

Hi Alex,
I just wanted to Thank You (& all the regular posters) for putting this site together and maintaining this great resource for HP MSS owners! I’ve only owned my MSS for a short time, and been a MediaSmartServer.net member (lurking for a long time prior  ) since it arrived on my door step, but I can’t tell you how much this site help in making my decision to go with and setup the HP MSS & WHS.
Best of Luck on your new endeavor, and I’m glad to see that this site and your presence on it will continue!
:D

Dude, are you serious? No way! That's hillarious.

Out of curiosity, what job could possibly be better for a tester than being the lead test engineer for a product like this?

echoing the previous comments and I'm sure many more to come - this site is the best resource for us MSS/networking noobs. Without it I would have given up already.

Congrats on your new opportunity, maybe you can share with us a little about that sometime soon.

And, finally, glad to know that this forum will continue to be. Many of us have just begun to scratch the surface on what we can do and will be coming here to share our experiences.

thanks!

Congratulations yakuza on your career change. I wish you the best of luck. Are you able to share what you'll be moving on to?

Thanks for "fessing up" on the "alex on sj-build.fc.hp.com" network share thing. I think it's quite funny. Your legacy remains on the MSS' sold to date. :)

Alex

This has to be one of the best "outs" I've read in a loooong time..... Hilarious!

Alex, to echo others' sentiments, thanks for starting this site it's the 1st stop I use whenever I have a an MSS issue or question because of the great community that has formed here around the MSS.

All the best with your career change (I've done a couple of those myself & I know how hard it is to stop second guessing the decision for a while).

Cheers.

Best of luck to ya! I'm sure you're off to bigger and better things...

Possibly shipping out a new NAS system that has a secret share called Alex? lol

Congrats on your career change. :)

Bold move in this uncertain economy, but the best at what they do always have employment security, even if an individual job provides little

Good luck in your new enterprise, hopefully it will be the growth you seek without any of the baggage you prefer to avoid.

Félicitations Alex!

And by the way, I won't erase the "alex on sj-build.fc.hp.com" after all. You're now a known and appreciated "intruder".

Well, at least we know "ALEX" isn't the HP spy we thought! LOLOLOLOL

I knew that was some network share anyways, and deleted it.
